The big decision — who to invite from the office. There are several acceptable approaches: (1) invite no one, (2) invite everyone, (3) invite just the boss(es), (4) invite just those you see outside of work, or (5) a combination of the 3 & 4.
A lot depends on the size of your office. If you work with three other people, you can invite everyone. If your group is a hundred strong, no one expects all to be invited. I am somewhere in between hence the dilemma. I am an attorney at a very large NYC law firm however my group is rather small — 3 partners (”bosses”), 1 counsel (”kinda boss”), 7 associates (including me), 2 legal assistants, and 4 secretaries.
In my ideal world, I would invite 2 of the partners, 3 of the associates (the girls), and 2 of the secretaries (mine, plus one of the partner’s secretaries), but unfortunately politics won’t allow this. With 15 total people in the group — plus guests — I clearly can’t invite all.
This has really been one of the toughest wedding-related decisions for me. The current thought for the guest list is:
