Many of my parent's friends are from Russia and the Ukraine as well. We want all of our guests to have a great time and hit the dance floor so we've hired a band that can play both Russian and American music; not to mention a mean rendition of the Gypsy Kings and chair-raising hora!
About Mrs. Firefly

The Registry

Registering is a great concept - walk around the store; pick out everything you want; spend no money. Great concept - sooo tiring in real life!

Mr. Firefly and I have registered in three stores: Bloomingdales, Williams & Sonoma and Michael C. Fina. The registries overlap somewhat - I know that I’ll have to make some exchanges - but I think non-New Yorkers are a bit intimidated by Bloomies (even if it’s online), so I needed the Williams & Sonoma option.

Michael C. Fina is actually a great find - they have fantastic prices on china. Whereas most places offer a 5-piece place-setting, Michael C. Fina does a 6-piece - you get an extra soup bowl that normally sells for $60! As an added bonus, Michael C. Fina will hold all of your registry purchases and then deliver them to you after the wedding. This way, you don’t need to bring any items back if you want to make a return.

We picked Persia by Wedgwood for our formal china.

Unfortunately, Persia is one of the few designs that is not available online, so we formally registered for the Oberon, which costs the same amount. We will then switch to the Persia when its time to deliver the items. The only “danger” is that people may want to buy us some china pieces at Bloomingdales (even though we did not put china on our Bloomies registry). Bloomies carries Oberon but not Persia. If we get Oberon china pieces from Bloomies, we will just have to return it for store credit (read: Firefly’s shoe fund).

Since both Michael and I have both been living on our own for quite some time, we both have everyday dinnerware. He has his mother’s old, indestructible, Corelle by Corning; I have some cute dishes I bought at Pier 1 when I was in law school. We didn’t really need everyday dishes, so wanted something nice enough for dinner guests, but microwave and dishwasher safe!!! We also wanted dishes that would easily match other pieces so we settled on Wedgwood’s Nantucket Basket.

We double-registered for the 50-piece set at Michael C. Fina ($500) and Bloomingdales ($589). Bloomingdales has big sales, so it may turn out to be cheaper there.
