There is a time period (around a month) in France where workers take their annual strike and many people take their extended vacations (meaning parts of towns/cities will close, shops will close, etc.). I believe it happens around the end of July and throughout August, so going to France is probably not the best idea in those months unless you’re going just to relax and see the usual tourist sites.
