…After the Show it’s the After Party

February 22nd, 2006 @ 5:02 pm by Mrs. Firefly

A wedding is no longer just one party; it’s now a whole series of events to plan - engagement parties, showers, rehearsal dinners, day after brunches…

Thankfully Jewish couples don’t have rehearsals before the wedding. No rehearsal = no mandatory rehearsal dinner (!) which means I can focus on tying bows, wrapping favors, doing sit-ups and other “important” pre-wedding tasks.

I’m not totally off the hook though since we are hosting a brunch for family and out-of-town guests the morning after the wedding. I’ve been on the hunt for a reasonably priced restaurant for an early (10:00am?) Sunday brunch. We are expecting to have 40 -50 people, so we don’t want to spend much over $20 per person.

The guests will be staying in a hotel in the financial district, so I’m looking for a restaurant within walking distance. I checked with the hotel and they would charge around $60 bucks per person - how many eggs do they expect people to eat??? One current contender is Smorgas Chef on Stone Street. Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

I don’t think any of these restaurants fit the bill for me, but here is a list of restaurants with good private dining options from Manhattan User’s Guide.

How about the Odeon? It’s within walking distance from the financial district.

It’s not super fancy, but it’s famous for it’s good and affordable brunches. I live in the financial district area and I never eat here. There really aren’t that many choices around here unfortunately.

If anyone is interested, if there any plus size ladies out there, Lane Bryant now has a small but stylish selection of wedding dresses. Very reasonable cost too.

I’m not sure if Mimi’s Cafe has hit up the East Coast yet, but here is their site just in case. The place serves an excellent breakfast at a reasonable price and if you book it ahead of time, you might be able to get a discounted price… I would know, I work there!

Happy Hunting and well wishes ^_^

I just came across this restaurant - they host a lot of rehearsal dinners and wedding brunches. It’s in tribeca so it might be like a 10-15 minute walk from where your guests are staying,

I’m not even sure if they do breakfast, but Moran’s is up the street. It’s a cute little space and since I don’t think they are normally open for bkfst, they might be willing to hook you up (they do a lot of weddings at their chelsea location, so they might be open to it).

Les Halles on John Street also does a nice brunch.

Odeon is delish but might be a bit of a walk for out of towners.

Stone Street is really adorable though…its totally closed off and suring warm months all of the restaurants set up tables outside in the street.
