Personal Pet Peeve

April 4th, 2006 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Bee

Why do so many high end wedding vendors use flash for their websites? Sure flash sites look cool and designers probably put a lot of work into them. But when you’re a bride, you depend on surfing, researching, and saving a crapload of images for ideas and inspiration. Flash often makes it hard or impossible to save images.

I do understand their copyrights if that’s what they’re concerned with. But they can add a logo or watermark or frame around images. People take stuff from weddingbee without crediting us, but I don’t really mind (unless it’s outright plagiarism).

My point is - I don’t care about the site looking super tricked out with flash effects. I’d rather the site be more functional for the user/bride. Personal Pet Peeve : wedding Winky No more flash websites please!

down with flash! i totally agree, it’s frustrating and generally flash sites are barely functional.

If I find a picture on a flash website that I really want to save, here’s what I do:

Take a screen shot, crop it, and save!

That’s what I usually do, but some sites change images as you move the mouse making it all complicated.

According to my boyfriend, if you use Firefox for your internet browsing (and not Explorer), you can save them even if they are using Flash in their website.
I havent done it personaly but he sends me picture links from flash sites all the time… that is what he told me when I asked “How did you do that!?!?!”

Amen! I hate having to wait for the Flash to load too!! When I have to go through a list of vendors, I get so impatient sometimes that I skip to the next site so they’re not really helping their cause either.
