Look Great in Your Wedding Photos

April 13th, 2006 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Ant

How? Just follow this expert advice that I’ve compiled from the following sources:

Image Active - 7 ways to look your best in pictures

LOOK THINNER
- Never press your arms against your sides. It will make your arms look fatter. Instead, lift your arms slightly like in the examples below.

FLATTERING ANGLES
- Tilt your chin slightly down. This will photograph more of your face and eyes, and less of your neck and nostrils.
- To make a “double chin” disappear, extend your neck forward a bit in the direction of the camera.

SMILE!
- Smile with your eyes as well as your lips! Think happy thoughts.
- Rest your jaw and change up your expressions. On your wedding day, you’re going to be smiling for the camera for hours and the muscles around your mouth will get tired. By resting and exercising those muscles, you will avoid looking “strained” in your photos.
- Don’t be afraid to practice your smile and a few poses in front of the mirror. Practicing will help you feel more confident and comfortable on your wedding day.

MAKEUP
- Makeup looks different in photographs than it does in natural light. Get a makeup trial before your big day and test the “photogenicity” of your makeup (with flash and without).
- Avoid shimmery products (they reflect flash) and dark red lipstick (your lips will look black in black & white photos).
- Use powder or blotting papers to absorb any shine or moisture. You want to glow in your pictures, not look greasy.

PICTURE PERFECT
- Hold the ring so that your fingers are on the top and bottom instead of the sides of the ring. If you need to hold your partner’s wrist to help push the ring on, try to place your hand underneathe. This way, your photographer and your guests can see it go on.

and the number one suggestion from the experts?

RELAX!
- Be yourself, relax, and have fun! It’s your wedding day!
- If you don’t like being in front of the camera, get some friends to stay behind the photographer and make you laugh. Just pretend the photographer isn’t even there and goof around with your friends and family.
- Don’t be afraid to move around - leap, jump, skip or even dance!
