For my enagement party in Houston last weekend, my mom wanted me to get my hair and makeup done. Since I don’t have a stylist there, she arranged an appointment for me at a Korean salon, run by a Korean woman. She was very nice, but also very Korean.

I’ve heard nightmare stories about makeup for the wedding day, especially when it’s done by a Korean person. Not to say that Korean people can’t put on makeup, but if they are not Americanized, they have a completely different idea of what looks good.

For example, this is what my makeup looked like for my friend Susie’s wedding.

Not too shabby, eh? Her friend (a Korean-American) did the makeup for all of us.

Now, here is the makeup that was done for my engagement party.

The eyes came out very good. I was really happy up until this point. Then, THIS happened.

Do you see the bright pink Barbie doll lipstick? Oh my god!! I didn’t know what to do, and since the lady is also my aunt’s hair stylist, I had to grin and bear it all the way until I got home. I literally drove like a maniac to come home and wash the lipstick off!! (but not before taking pictures for my blog!!)

Now, let’s move on to the hair. I actually really liked the way my hair came out, except for the bangs. She thought they were too long, so she cut them. I’m a little crazy about my hair - no one, and I mean NO ONE can touch my hair except for MY stylist. So for a woman to just trim my bangs without warning… well, let’s just say it took all of my willpower not to scream out in shock and anger. (I’m seeing my hair stylist this Saturday - he’s gonna say something about my bangs. I know it.)

Compare that to my hair for my friend’s wedding.

I know it looks a bit messy (this was towards the end of the night), but it was actually very beautiful. It kept falling out towards the end (not enough hair spray).

Lucky for me, I don’t have to go through this guessing game for my wedding day. One of my wonderful friends has agreed to do my makeup and the wedding party makeup for the day of the wedding and of course, my stylist is coming in from NJ to do my hair. I dont know what I would do otherwise….
