How Big Is Yo Rock?

April 27th, 2006 @ 9:40 am by Mrs. Bee

We’ve talked about how much the size of your engagement ring matters on weddingbee before. It can be a touchy subject. Here Comes the Blog’s recent post about whether or not size matters got me thinking about the topic again so let’s do our first ever ring survey!

How big is yo rock?

I wore my promise ring on my left hand instead of my ering on a recent trip to the Caribbean. I met some girls who asked me if I was engaged, and I said yes! You could see from their expressions that they didn’t think highly of my ring. This “disapproval” was also readily apparent later in the conversation as they asked about my fiance and our relationship.

WTF?!! How dare they judge me, my fiance, or our relationship based on an object? I love my promise ring. If my fiance proposed to me with that ring many years ago, I would have been just as happy!

I can’t stand people who judge relationships based on the e-ring. True love is more precious than any diamond.

I think it’s totally disgusting for women to get wrapped up in size=love.

I find it so ignorant that people think the size of your love and comittment comes down to the size of a diamond! When the “tradition” of wearing a diamond engagment ring is not that old - and is generally a debiers conspiricy. engagement rings used to come in all colours and sizes, were quite often family heirlooms and such. The diamond theory is ridiculous!
My engagement ring is a white-gold band with snowflakes etched into it. There are veryvery tiny diamonds inbetween each snowflake - which to tell you the truth I didn’t even notice when I first saw the ring - i thought it was a finish on the metal - and I absolutley adore my ring. I have though - had alot of strange looks from people, wondering where my rock is?
I just point to my fiance. He’s all I need.

What about those of us who choose NOT to have diamonds? I personally did not want a diamond, and my FI and I went with Cz.
I think bling is nice, but the ethical, moral and environmental issues that surround diamonds (plus the expense) helped us to decide against a diamond ring.
I love you guys, but I think it is interesting that you didn’t even include that option in this poll and discussion.
And to top it off, I never tell anyone that is is or isn’t a diamond. It is 1 carat, not huge, but no one has had the guts to ask. Until public opinion change, I don’t want every compliment on my engagement ring to end in a debate about or judgement upon our choice.
