First Dance

May 8th, 2006 @ 1:39 pm by Mrs. Butterfly

Now that I’ve picked a DJ, I can’t help but think about all the songs that I need to pick out for those special moments. My mom has already told me she doesn’t want to do the father/daughter or son/mother or any of those combination of dances. In fact, my parents dont want to dance at all! Great - this will be a fun wedding. First Dance : wedding new york Whatevah

Anyway, even if we don’t do those dances, there is still the First Dance song. I have absolutely NO idea what to pick. Do I want to be cheesy? Romantic? Fun? Classic? And any song that I choose will have to depend on how much Mr. Butterfly and I improve after taking dance lessons. Mr. Butterfly has two left feet. First Dance : wedding new york Laughing

I don’t want the song to be too slow otherwise, it’ll get boring. But it can’t be too fast either because that’ll make it harder for us to learn. And we don’t really have a song that’s “our song” so it’s really up in the air. Right now, we are leaning towards Sinatra - but nothing’s decided yet. *sigh*

I still have so much to do (invitations, florist, bridesmaid dresses, gifts for bridal party and OOT guests, rehearsal dinner, Sunday brunch, etc etc etc), and I’m freaking out about songs. Where are my priorities!!!

Wow… no father and daughter dance? that’s usually the best part of the event for parents.
I used “Valentine” by Jim Brickman and Martina McBride. The words are beautiful. I was debating over either the “Destiny” or “Valentine”. They bother weren’t too slow or fast. I should have a listen to them. :)

I meant to say, YOU should have a listen to it. :)

A lot of Asians prefer not to have the Father/Daughter, Mother/Son dances. I think they’re just not comfortable/feel too awkward. I’m wondering when I get married whether we’ll those either.

My fiance and I are going to dance to Frankie Valli’s “You’re Just Too Good To Be True”. We’re not sure what songs to have for the mom/son and dad/daughter dances.

the best first dance are the ones where the whole song is NOT played out… usually the dj will cut it about half to 3/4 of the way…

it makes the time go by faster for the guest & you don’t miss out on them :)

I think the best song to dance to for your first dance , in my opinion is from the band 311: “Love Song”. The song is so incredibly beautiful, when I get married that’s the song that I want to walk down the aisle to it’s so great. Or how about dancing to the song of the: Goo Goo Dolls: Iris. These are both two beautiful songs but they are both really slow songs to dance to. So I’m not sure you want them. I also would recommend the song by Richard Marx: Right here waiting. Another beautiful song to dance to as well.

Well good luck with finding a song.

Thanks for the idea re: rehearsal! That’s actually a very good idea. I’m going to keep it in mind. The only issue I would have is my fiance seeing me beforehand, but it’s a good solution so thanks!

Oh and regarding your first dance, I’m the same way in that I didn’t want anything too slow - it’s just not us. So I picked “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys. A little unconventional in tempo, but it has meaning for us and I wanted us to be different.
