About Mrs. Grasshopper

del.icio.us brides

May 18th, 2006 @ 11:32 am by Mrs. Grasshopper

When I first started planning our wedding back in October I was bookmarking websites, ideas, photos - anything wedding related on my laptop, my home desktop computer and my work computer. After about two months of emailing myself links from one computer to the next, I decided to check out del.icio.us. It’s a web bookmarking system that allows users to save their favorite sites, add a title, notes and tags and access the bookmarks from any computer connected to the web. No more jumping back and forth! It was great.

As I started adding my own bookmarks and tagging them “wedding” or “shoes” I started to find other people who had bookmarked the same letterpress site or beaded handbag, leading me to other wedding related sites and ideas from other del.icio.us brides. This is how I discovered weddingbee!

Using del.icio.us has turned out to be a great wedding planning tool for me. I highly recommend checking out how it might work for your planning. You can sign up for a free account at del.icio.us and browse the other sites tagged according to your interests. To get to started, you can check out all the sites tagged as wedding here.

They have a great tool that allows you to add an icon to your web browser called “post to delicious” everytime you visit a site, you can click the “post” icon and slowly add all of your most visited sites (without turning the transfer into a massive project).

Even easier… google released their “notebook” which is the easiest copy/paste/save tool ever!

check it out… it only came out on Monday and I’m wondering where its been my whole web life!

For those that already have a bunch of links saved in your Favorites you can Import them into Delicious. Once you’ve signed up for an account, go to Settings > Import and it’ll walk you through the few steps.

The neat thing is that if you’ve organized all your links into folders/subfolders (wedding, food, vendors, etc…), Delicious will take those folder names and turn them into Tags (the way http://www.flickr.com uses them) so your stuff will be really easy to search/find stuff.

Good luck!

I am finding that google notebook is a good way of “book marking” things.

I saw this post and was so excited about this tool. Now that I have it, I’m a little disappointed. The site/server is slow. And when I click on my tags, it takes too long to load :(. I’m back to my favorites on my browser which is a lot faster (nothing to load). I just backup my favorites every now and then.

That’s too bad! I am sorry it was a disappointment.
