About Mrs. Grasshopper

After a quick check in on the knot message boards this weekend, I found a listing of what the other September brides have done and what is left of their planning. I left the boards quickly before freaking out any further about what we have left to finish. We have a lot of work to do! Thank goodness this weekend was declared wedding planning bonanza. Wow. With four months to go, I had almost none of those things on your still to do list done…and I spent about 18 months planning my wedding! LOL!

Don’t let those severe lists rattle you. They’re just guidelines. The main things to worry about are that you have your site(s) in plenty of time (which you do), the invitations are in your hands and ready to go about six weeks before the wedding, and your officient has the ceremony in plenty of time to practice or explain what changes are necessary and make them.

You’ve got all your vendors lined up, gowns ordered, hair decided (I figured out what to do with my hair the morning of my wedding! What’s more, I only decided on jewelry the night before), your honeymoon plans underway, and all your addresses in order. Plus you’ve got plans to plan the wedding all weekend. You’re in good shape.

Besides, some of the things on that list you can’t do too far in advance. Most marriage licences aren’t good for four months, and OOT giftbags/baskets are best put together within a couple days of when the OOT guests are expected. There’s no point in making them now so they gather dust somewhere and then it turns out Great Aunt Myrtle can’t make it so you’ve wasted fifty bucks on putting together a special basket for her.

IOW, you’re doing just fine, Miss Grasshopper. Take a deep breath, look at the list, and decide what really needs to be dealt with right now. I’d start with things that need to be printed or that require you hiring someone else. Those are the things that require the most lead time, and should probably be decided in the next couple weeks to ensure smooth sailing.
