DIY Programs

May 24th, 2006 @ 9:25 am by Mrs. Spider

I used Adobe Illustrator to make my cousin Florence’s wedding programs. I created a design with their first names for the cover and used the couple’s initials to make a background monogram for the inside pages. The pink metallic paper is called Stardream Rose - I got two packs of 50 for $12.90 at Paper Presentation. I found the burgundy ribbon on sale for 44 cents a roll at Michael’s.

That is absolutely beautiful! I love your DIY ideas! Is Illustrator similar to Photoshop? I think I’ve only used Illustrator like, once? I wonder if you can do that in Photoshop… And did you just use a regular printer to print that out on? It looks amazing! :)

Illustrator is similar to Quark Xpress but not so much with Photoshop. It can def. be done with Photoshop as long as each Letter or text section is created on a separate layer. These babies were printed on a regular ink jet printer. Thanks for your comment Gina~!

Yeah, Illustrator is easy to use. I love it for its text capabilities like spacing between letters and sentence lines. Also for customizing fonts. It really is for creating images. Quark Xpress is great for layouts and publishing. Both are not as complex as Photoshop. I’m pretty rusty with all three actually.

Wow, that’s absolutely amazing - so simple but elegant. any chance you’re willing to post the illustrator file for us to mess around with? (obviously without any personal info)

That’s a good idea Sarah. Let me go home and work with it a bit and post it up somehow. At the very least I should share the text and the fonts I used. Thanks~!

Wow! I’m working on my cousin’s wedding invitations as well and I’m trying to figure out how to make that “faded in the background” monogram effect that you have.

How do you do that? I’m working on Quark (I work in publishing, but not really am a designer so don’t know all those cool effects!)

If you could help me out with that would be great!

THANKS!
