About Mrs. Bee

You Have to Say Yes

May 25th, 2006 @ 12:22 pm by Mrs. Bee

Mrs. Bee isn’t feeling well today, so this is Mr. Bee guestblogging.

Miss Spider, I loved your post about Mr. Spider’s proposal! The description of his proposal was just classic:

I turn to Mr. Spider and that’s when I see that he’s shaking like a leaf.

He asks me a serious of ridiculous questions that made no sense and immediately I’m like WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?!? He tells me how on the ice he said that he always wants me to skate along side him and says that he wants me to be at his side for his whole life as well. He says other things too but I don’t hear him because I’m sobbing and screaming “oh my god, oh my god, what are you doing?”

He gets down on one knee, pulls out the ring box, flips it open and says “Will you marry me?” I’m crying, my hands are covering my face and a crowd has formed a circle around us. It seems like time is suspended. Finally Mr. Spider mumbles “You have to say yes”. And I do. Again and again and again.

As happy as the moment was, my heart went out to Mr. Spider. That’s because when I proposed to Mrs. Bee, she also forgot to say yes! Actually, I made the mistake of busting out the ring before I asked her to marry me… so I don’t think she heard a word of my proposal!

At the time, I was really surprised that she didn’t say “yes” right away. But over time, I’ve heard that girls are often just overwhelmed by the whole experience (especially if you surprise them). So they go into shock, and they don’t know what to say. I’ve always wondered if this was true.

What was your immediate reaction when your boyfriend proposed?

I was so completely and utterly shocked I felt like I was under water and my hearing was funny. And yes, the ring was definitely a major distraction. Like a kid fixated on something shiny. I think the adrenaline rush made me want to throw up a little too~!

I was so caught up in my emotions that I didn’t say “Yes” until after he asked me for a third time! although i think he knew what i meant when i started crying tears of joy after the second time…

i couldn’t speak at all. i think it was at least 5 minutes before i said anything. i kept looking at him and the ring and hugging him over and over. i think i told him i loved him before i managed to say the word “yes” (it’s all a little blurry). he figured out what i meant, though.

When people ask me how my Fi proposed to me, I tell them I don’t remember b/c I was too busy crying and in complete utter shock when I saw the ring.

i knew it was coming, but not sure exactly when. when he started speaking to me all weird - about how much he loved me, etc. - i knew it was time. i have to admit, i faked an “omg!” and then threw myself at him and screamed “yes, yes, yes!” =P

I must have said “Oh my God!Oh my God!Oh my God!Oh my God!” atleast 10 times before he said WELL??????? I was sooo happy and surprised and nervous and couldn’t believe it.

It was just a full blown surprise that sent me into shock because I didn’t expet it at all!!

since my proposal was several hours long (with the scavenger hunt), by the time the homemade slideshow ended, i was bawling like a baby. i didnt hear a word he said while he proposed…all i saw was the ring, his expectant face, and said yes! from what he tells me, i said yes pretty quickly. but i think that’s because i had half a day to absorb what was happening.

i still bawled like a baby though.

I don’t remember anything! Because I was so shocked… I vaguely remember saying yes… But later on, my fiance told me that I kept on screaming, “what are you doing? what are you doing?” as he got on his knees… LOL i seriously don’t remember!

The first words out of my mouth were “You gotta be kidding?!?” I was not in the mood to be proposed to - we just finished hiking down to a waterfall, I was sweaty, etc., and I wasn’t impressed with the waterfall (sorta dinky). I finally came around to the idea that he was proposing. I asked to see the ring, and he said that he didn’t bring it since we were on vacation and he didn’t want to lose it. Then, I said - it’s not a real proposal, I want another one when I get the ring. I also forgot to say yes until he prompted me. Anyway, he proposed again with the ring in Central Park.

i was surprised, said “what are you doing?” a couple times and then started walking backwards. FI was on both knees with the ring and had to crawl towards me. said yes after a few seconds.

you’re right though, the girl has to wait a few seconds to get over the shock of the proposal. for me, i thought 1) hey, isn’t that the ring i tried on that the jeweler said she was making for another customer *me*? and 2) how the hell did he find time to get the ring.

def no crying though. no way.

no crying for me either. not sure if it was the ring or just pure shock. my hubby proposed at the metropolitan museum of art and i didn’t say yes until we left the musem and were waiting for a taxi!

I’m catching up on all of your blogs - from the first all the way to the most current. Needless to say, i have a long way to go. This posting made me laugh. I also forgot to say yes and my FH had to ask me again, but this time he was stuttering. He was afraid he messed up on the ring he bought me, bless his heart! what he couldn’t see was that i was crying and in total shock! it was so unexpected. This took me back to my proposal - *sigh* feels great!
