Bridesmaids Gifts

May 31st, 2006 @ 5:48 pm by Mrs. Bee

Brides often stress about what they should give their bridemaids, so I thought I’d share what Mr. Bee and I gave to our wedding party - perhaps it’ll give you some ideas.

  • 1 groomsman got a cigar club membership
  • 1 groomsman got a wine club membership
  • Maid of honor and 1 bridesmaid each got an ipod shuffle and an itunes gift card
  • 1 bridesmaid got a ton of makeup from MAC (my moh is a make-up artist so she gets 40% off ;))
  • Male usher, male giftbook attendant, 2 wedding planners, photographer all received a nice bottle of bordeaux
  • Female giftbook attendant received a limited edition cleansing oil from Shu Uemura

You might choose to make something meaningful like a photo album, or maybe buy a piece of jewelry they can wear on the wedding day, or even offer to pay for travel accomodations. Perhaps you’ll spend a little bit more on your maid of honor. Whatever you decide to give, be sure to include a handwritten note thanking your bridesmaid for being a part of your big day.

What are you planning on giving your bridesmaids?

I only have my sister, who will be the maid of honor, so I plan on getting her a silver and pearl necklace from Tiffany’s. My flower girl is my 6 year old half-sister who will probably get a bag of fun goodies along with a book called “When I was a Flower Girl”. As for the best man, my fiance’s brother, I’m going to give him a budget and leave it up to him to figure out what to get him…though, a cigar club membership is a great idea, because he loves cigars! :)

GMs
- 2 tickets to next season’s clipper games

Flowergirls & ring bearer
- red envelope ($20)

Friend who came with me to the makeup/hair studio to be a translator and mediator
- picture album filled with “WOW” pictures…its a fobby thing we always do whenever there is a camera around us!

it’s a very chinese thing to give red envelopes, so everyone in my bridal party, my friend that will handle my flowers, and any other friends/family that help set-up will get red envelopes in different denominations.

i want to get something personal for my girls, in addition to money. i’m really stuck on what to get my MOHs - i’m going to have a maid & matron of honor. these 2 are the “girl that has everything” type of girls. i’m leaning towards jewelry and i really want to get something out of the ordinary for them.

i love the goody bag idea, so my flower girl & ring bearer will get those too!

My sister just got me a DoDo necklace for my birthday–a leather thong with a gold elephant charm, signifying trust. They make a ton of different charms, all with different meanings. I think this would be a great bridesmaid gift–totally customizable, wearable and easy.

We’re paying for the bridesmaids dresses + alterations, so I want to avoid giving any matching jewelry or material gifts. Ideally, I’d like to give them something handmade that’s meaningful and creative.. Ehhhh… we’ll see what happens!

When I got married, I picked out a small, individual gift for every bridesmaid. The junior bridesmaid, for instance, got a pretty hair ornament, while the MOH, who is an excellent cook, got a fish-shaped ginger grater, etc.

A few weeks before the wedding, my father took a European trip. One of his stops was Belgium. Entirely of his own volition, he made sure while he was in Brugges to pick up lace-edged handkerchiefs for each of my bridesmaids with their initials embroidered on one corner. He also picked out a gorgeous handkerchief for me while he was at it! Every time I look at my wedding hanky, it makes me a little misty.

When I’ve acted as a bridesmaid, I’ve generally been given a small piece of jewelry. As long as the gift is chosen with love, I treasure it. The brass dinosaur scatter pins I was given for acting as MOH in one wedding mean every bit as much to me as my wedding hanky.

Aside from paying for my BMs’ dresses, hair and makeup, I was going to give them an orange bag (one of the colors in our scheme) filled with a flower-shaped face cloth that I knit, an eye pillow that I have yet to sew up and fill with lavendar, and a piece of jewelry (necklace?).
