I was browing through a magazine store to find something to read (Star Magazine, In Style, etc. - it’s my thing, don’t ask), when I came across this cover.

There’s a really interesting article about marriage and how it’s changed in the last twenty years. According to the article, a 40 year old woman has a 40% chance of getting married eventually.

Some other statistics that I found intersting:

Average age of women at their first marriage in the 1950’s: 20
Average age of women at their first marriage today: 25
Average age of women at their first marriage today, if they have a college degree: 27
Average age of women at their first marriage today, if they have a master’s or professional degree: 30
Women with higher education (college and above) are more likely to marry than women with lower levels of education.

So according to this article, I am AHEAD of my average marriage age! YES!! I’m just kidding - I know these are just numbers….but they are interesting, right?

Wasn’t it reflecting on an older study which claimed that if a woman was over 30 and single, she had almost no chance of ever marrying… ? Glad they came out with a more recent study.

Great info. I’m WAY ahead of my average! I was 22 with a Masters Degree when I got married so 8 years under the average.

I guess I’m right on target….for the 50’s!

I’m also not average because I don’t have my college degree yet and I’m marrying someone who’s working on his Master’s.

I’m not sure about those stats.. i’ld like to see where they got their sources, and how the sample populations were collected. i recently analyzed a national CDC dataset on women’s age at first marriage, according to education, and it was much lower for all of those stats.
