Engagement Rules

June 2nd, 2006 @ 1:35 pm by Mrs. Bee

Since everyone in Hollywood seems to get engaged so quickly, Ryan Seacrest of KIIS FM in Los Angeles came up with some rules to consider before popping the big question.

Engagement Rules : wedding Engagement engagement.gif

  • Six month dating minimum
  • One holiday dinner with family (St. Patricks Day at a bar with his sister doesn’t count)
  • 20 hours community laundry
  • He needs to see you with out any make-up at least 6 times
  • You need to get over FBS (foreign bed syndrome)

Does he mean that this should apply to celebrities or to us mere mortals as well? Do you think that there is a minimum amount of time a couple should date before getting engaged?

(thanks, kanipark!)

My boyfriend and I have been going out for a year, and while I am certain that he’s the one (we’ve known each other for like 10 years before going out), he still wants to wait some more, citing that we are not ready, and by “we” he really just means “he.”

Oh, my heart sinks…

I used to say that 5 years minimum was good, but ha, I’m near 2 1/2 and I’m ready right now. I know of another couple that got engaged after 9 months (a jdate couple) which made me really skeptical but they do seem to work, so… I think it all depends on the couple. Sometimes 6 months is enough, othertimes 10 years is still too short.

i think it really depends on the couple - where each person is emotionally in their lives, and how much baggage they have, etc. i was ready to make a clean start when I met J - but he still had some baggage which took a while to get rid of. hence the 3 years before getting engaged.

my boss and her husband were engaged in like 10 days, then married in 2 months and now they have 2 beautiful children who are 4 and 2. will it work 10 years from now? who knows…..but its all very different for everyone.

i totally agree with andi, it depends on the couple… after 3 months, jeff & i were official bf/gf, after 9-12 months… engaged & married at our 2 year mark :)

i do agree that a couple should meet family… it’s very important to meeh… but the laundry?!?
