How Long Before You Knew?

June 2nd, 2006 @ 3:15 pm by Mrs. Bee

Maybe 5 or so years ago, a friend’s sister and her boyfriend were planning to get married after 2 months of dating. At the time I thought they were crazy! How could you possibly know that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with a person after only 2 months?! Though I was a romantic at heart (aren’t we all at least a little?), I just didn’t believe in that type of instantaneous love… at least not for me.

Since then, Mr. Bee has made me a believer. :) Many of my married friends have also told me that they knew their hubby was “the one” within the first couple months of dating. Others couples have told me it took years before realizing they were with “the one.”

I don’t think there is a specific amount of time a couple needs to date before getting engaged (as Ryan’s list below suggests). It may be a month, a year, or even ten years - the circumstances are different for everyone.

Unless of course you’re a celebrity. ;)

How long did you date before you knew he was the one?

I knew within 6 months… but I think C knew at 3 months when he once said over dinner “You’re going to marry me one day.” I knew spit up my wine. But here we are… we was right.

i think J said that he could see himself marrying me on our first v-day…that makes it less than a year….but we kinda talked about it around the 6 month mark. i dont think it takes THAT long if you are both emotionally mature…

I say 1-2 years but keep in mind we started dating when I was 16 and he was 15 so I don’t think either of us were really thinking about marriage. By the time I was graduating from high school though I thought he was the one, it was just hard to comprehend at that age. I guess we were really lucky. =)

We just knew from the moment we met. It was an uncanny connection.

Always a romantic, Mr Ant claims it was love at first sight. As a scientist, I attribute it to pheromones.

;-)

I won’t say it was love at first sight for me and mr. bee, but I would definitely say love at first encounter. =)

My case is a little odd. I became friends with my beloved over the course of a couple years. We’d been friends for a couple years when he asked me out on a date. All in all, I’d known him for more than five years before we went out for the first time, but by the end of our second date we were designing our dream house and naming the kids!

He tells me that he, OTOH, got a crush on me the day we met.

we both knew around the 6 month mark but by the time that came, we were already in the beginning stages of planning.

About 6 months too. And that’s when he moved in. The best decision ever :-).

We knew the first week of us dating that we would one day get married. It’s so fun, now that we are planning the wedding, to tell people that we’ve always known. :)

10 days.
That’s how long it took betwwen the time we met and for my husband to first propose.

Of course I said yes, and have been saying yes every day for over five years now.

he told me after two months of dating that he knew we were going to get married. :) it took me a little more time to be convinced… three months later.
