Master Mixologist

June 2nd, 2006 @ 12:28 pm by Mrs. Bee

I read about master cocktail mixologist Dale Degroff in the most recent issue of Modern Bride magazine. Actually I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him on an episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy where he taught a straight guy some romantic cocktail recipes. Anyway Dale is one of the foremost authorities when it comes to recreating classic cocktails and developing new ones. His website is a veritable treasure trove of cocktail recipes and resources.

I would definitely recommend having signature cocktails at your wedding because they can save you a lot of money. We had two to match our color scheme - red and celadon:

  1. Love Potion - a strawberry flavored cocktail which we first tried at Lotus. (I think someone recently asked me for the recipe… I’ll try to look for it!)
  2. Magic Mojito - a classic green cocktail.

We placed the drink recipes in picture frames on the bar and people drank them all night long. In the end, we saved almost $1000 on our liquor bill because the company we used bought back any unused liquor. They picked up the leftover alcohol from the venue the day after the wedding, then credited my credit card. It was awesome to come back from our honeymoon and see the $1000 credit in our account. :)

Have fun with your cocktails - choose a theme like “winter wonderland,” or “something old, new, borrowed, blue,” or match your color scheme. Trying out cocktail recipes is something your fiance will be more than happy to help out with.

Dale Degroff made a FAB drink that I sampled at the Modern Bride Trendsetter dinner (it was some sort of “lemonade” concoction). I am not a big drinker at all, but man was this one yummy.

I also discovered my fave alcoholic beverage of ALL time at a Martha Stewart weddings event last year at Michael C. Fina: X-rated Fusion Liquer. Cheesy name, I know, but this stuff is so lip smacking delicious, you won’t be able to put it down. It’s vodka infused with blood oranges and other fruits and is this gorgeous cotton candy pink color. They were serving it with just a splash of seltzer, and I had 4 in a span of about 38 minutes. We’re using it for one of our signature cocktails at our wedding and its going to match the pink of my dress!

I promise I don’t work for, or have any ties to the company…just love the stuff!
