About Mrs. Butterfly

Registry

June 5th, 2006 @ 1:16 pm by Mrs. Butterfly

Mr. Butterfly and I had planned on registering in the summer, when we are both out of school. When we decided this, we figured we had plenty of time - but it’s June already and I haven’t even begun to think about what I need/want for our new apartment! (We will be moving to a bigger place as soon as we get married.)

I figured that a lot of the adults that are coming will give money because that’s what Asians do. But we still have to register for some basic stuff - towels, linens, pillows, some kitchen stuff, and maybe some luggage.

We are thinking of registering at the following places:

Bed Bath & Beyond
Crate & Barrel
Macy’s

I think that should cover all of the bed, kitchen and luggage items. Unfortunately for Mr. Butterfly, I nixed the idea of registering at Sony. Registry : wedding new york Silly

What other places can you recommend for registries and how was your experience there?

It’s funny how we still see our parents’ friends as “adults.” lol aren’t we adults too?

there is a guy names jon at the bbb in chelsea that is the most awesome helpful registry guru of alllll time. you’ll generally get much less service at the department stores. we only registered at bbb and had a great experience.

Try Williams-Sonoma. It was a breeze registering there. We registered for pots/pans and knives there. The pots/pans may be more expensive compared to other stores.

We had great experiences with registries from BB&B and C&B. In addition to those two traditional registries, we also had a honeymoon registry from TheHoneymoon.com. It was a HUGE HIT with our friends who understood that my hubby and I already had an established home. They were excited to contribute to our trip. We received enough to pay for excursions and meals for half our Hawaiian honeymoon! I highly recommend it if your guests are the type to participate (and aren’t old-school enough to be offended). :)

We registered at Amazon.com.

It’s great because you can register for everything from cds to bikes. We chose it because we already live together and didn’t need a lot of the traditional registry items. I even registered for the Vera Wang perfume I want to wear on the wedding day.

We have a lot of web savvy guests so it wasn’t an issue being that there is no “store front”.

I am happy with it, and much preferred registering online vs. in-store. We also have a Macys registry and started that in-store. But we soon retreated, and finished it online.

be sure to check out C&B’s engagement event! you get to go in before the store opens. all of those that are there are registering too, so you don’t feel so silly picking up wine goblets and bringing them over to the china section to make sure they match! the staff are super helpful and even have refreshments and breakfast muchies.

i’m registered at amazon.com, and it’s been great - they have everything! you can include fun things like tv show dvds, but also get more important things that aren’t marked up like at department stores. the only downside is that the stuff doesn’t show up as quickly.

for our housewarming, we registered at bb&b, and we loved how easy it was… and our friends loved how easy it was for them to find our gifts.

unfortunately, we still got duplicates, because our friends forgot to mention to the salesperson that it was for a registry, so that’s very important! (or else you can always just go back and exchange it, because bb&b just needs to see that it was on your registry, no receipts needed).

We’re registered at Crate and Barrel, Target and HomeDepot.com. I really wanted my fiance to get gifts for our home that are more for him - tools, outside gardening, etc…

Just Michael C. Fina — it’s a traditional registry type place, so you can’t get towels and a TV, but if you’re looking for china, it’s pretty great. Connie is really easy to work with; she helps you pick out your patterns and is willing to spend hours with you. Also, they carry a lot of the same things that Bergdorf does, but for a better price.

We are registered at both Bed Bath and Beyond and Target.

Bed bath and beyond is very helpful and will gladly answer any questions. They even let us stay in the store well after it closed to continue working on our registry (it took us like 4 hours in the store plus lots of time online afterwards).

Also, as someone above already mentioned, you don’t need a reciept to return items on your registry. And anything you’re registered for you get 10% off after the wedding.

I registered this past week at Crate and Barrel and Macy’s.

We LOVED Crate and Barrel. It was easy!

We HATED Macy’s! Not only did they not have a lot of stuff, the scanner was complicated and when I got home, I couldn’t sign in to the online registry! The saleswoman didn’t know how to do anything either. The ONLY perk was getting a free Swiss Army complimentary bag.

My beloved and I registered at Macy’s, lo these many years ago (coming up on thirteenth anniversary later this month!), and the one problem we had aside from lack of staff support for my utterly confused honey, was that it seemed that the next day about half of what we registered for - including our towels! - was discontinued. Luckily our flatware and cookware both remained because we needed them desperately! LOL!
