No. I've gilded the heads of pins to make sure they looked properly antique. Gilded them. Then coated them in german glass glitter. I am that crazy.
About Mrs. Caterpillar

Charmed

June 8th, 2006 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Caterpillar

I love cake. And I love cake pulls — little charms attached to ribbons that you hide within the frosting on your cake (wedding, rehearsal, or shower) for your bridesmaids. Each charm is usually different, and it’s literally luck of the draw as to who gets which — a heart for true love, a wishbone for luck, a coin for prosperity. I’m not tossing anything at my wedding — not the bouquet, not a garter, no rocks, cake, or rice — so, I figure the charms will make up for that. This way, no one has to scamper around after a wilting flower arrangement, but still gets that extra bit of wedding luck.

Mignon Faget makes that lovely set of 8 above, but they’re currently backordered for 8 weeks and cost about $400.

If you’re feeling crafty, I would bet you could make a set for a fraction of that. Martha Stewart’s Blueprint magazine has an extensive list of online charm sources here. You could also use milagros — which I have always loved. Corazon Fair Trade sells these for $1 each, $9/dozen, $50/hundred.

You can go to craft stores and go to the card making section and the jewelry making section. You can get all kinds of themes for like $3-4. Some knotties use them with jewelry findings to make wine charms (one set per couple).

Hallmark also has a set and in some individual shops they are on sale (6 charms for 3 bucks or so).

There are a bunch of bead/jewelry stores in the Fashion District too. My recent favorite is Toho Shoji.
