Last Bride Standing

June 14th, 2006 @ 12:51 pm by Mrs. Bee

I was exhausted last night and decided to zone out in front of the tv. I watched a special on the Style Network called To Have and To Hold: Last Bride Standing. The premise was having real brides place their hand on a Monique Lhuillier dress valued at $10,000 and the last bride standing would win the dress.

I was amazed that all 7 women made it through the night, including one that was 60 years old. They lasted over 24 hours with no sleep in 40 degree weather (but they did get 5 minute breaks every hour to use the bathroom). They really wanted that dress!

Some twists were thrown in, with various prizes offered to get the brides to give up - Stuart Weitzman shoes ($500 value), a $5000 cake, a trip to Tahiti in one of those overwater bungalows ($7000 value), but the women had amazing resolve. They also added elements to make the game incrementally difficult - having the brides stand in high heels, then on a little wooden platfom they couldn’t take their feet off of, then holding a bouquet over their shoulders.

As weariness came over the brides, they took the prizes and gave in one by one. Finally there were two brides left. One of them took her foot off the pedestal and didn’t even realize it. The winner had her hand on that dress for almost 27 hours.

I would’ve taken the Tahiti trip over the dress any day, but I’d never last in such a contest anyway.

Would you ever participate in such a contest to win a Monique Lhuillier gown?

I saw that show a few weeks ago too. It was very interesting and boy do those women have will power!

I’d totally give up a dress for that vacation. These shows are driving me crazy though. Now the Today Show throws a wedding is going to be more competitive like a la Survivor and what not. I kind of hate that.

I saw the show over memorial day week-end.
I found it boring and stupid. I didn’t even like the dress that she picked. Yes to a tript to Tahiti no to a it-is-10-k-but-doesn’t-look-like-it wedding dress. :)

Trip to Tahiti. I would’ve entered in that contest for that…. but a dress? Heavens, no…

Nope. Too degrading, whether for the dress, the trip, the shoes…just no.

I saw the show too. No.. I wouldn’t do it myself. I mean, it’d be nice to have a ML dress, but not for not sleeping for over 24 hours, while STANDING! (I HATE standing still for any long period of time, like the models on DEAL OR NO DEAL have to go through. But I’m sure they get paid nicely, plus wearing a new dress everyday). A wedding dress is not worth THAT much “torture” for me (yes, it’s a torture when I don’t get my sleep lol). But I WOULD do it for the trip to Tahiti! That’s what I was saying too when that twist was thrown in.

I watched this show yesterday and I was hooked for some crazy reason! But just when the host gave the last two girls the bouquet to hold the satelite on my TV went out! I can not find out when it is playing next and I have no idea who won! Can anyone give me a recap of the last 10 minutes!!??

One of the girls (the one who kept crying) took her foot off the pedastal before they even began the flower over the shoulder portion. They felt sorry for her so she got a week long trip somewhere.

The last bride who got eliminated (the one who kept crying) didn’t take her foot off but took her hand off the dress. They reviewed the footage and found that she took her hand off when he gave her the bouquet to hold up.

I’m so sure someone is crying “foul” right about now. Today’s show - repeat as it may be eliminated the Sista who’s foot came of the pedastal without hesitation, or a consolation prize. However, the Chick who boo-hood at the end who’s hand came off the dress, after being reminded to not take her hand off, after being reminded that they gave up everything and therefore lost any opportunity to receive ANYTHING IS THEY WERE ELIMINATED…..somehow still wound up with a $6,000 honeymoon vacation. Is it me or is there an obvious DOUBLE STANDARD here? Is it me or is this a SERIOUS FOUL and blatant wrong on the Sista? I’m pissed about this, and I hope she sues the show.

I was watching it too and was all into it when my mom called and I had to leave. So did the black girl win or not? and if not what made her lose? When does the show air and on what network because I am hooked. Anyway I would have taken that trip too I mean you can always get a beautiful dress but the honeymoon is where the money really comes in, if you want something extravagent.

I am watching a replay of the show and want to know where i can find the dress that the girls are holding on to. After emailing Monique Luillier’s website they have indicated that the dress they are holding is not one of her’s but that they will win a dress by her. I want the dress they are holding onto, does anyone know?

The girl who won “last bride standing”, Pamela, is one of my best friends. I was in the wedding last month and let me tell you that dress was amazing and definitely looked like $10K!!! And actually the dress was only $7500 because they gave her $2500 in cash for her wedding, which certainly helped pay for the exotic honeymoon!

Do you happen to know who made or designed the dress your friend had to hold on to in order to win?

Watching the show really proves how much a wedding dress along with the wedding really means to a woman. Men should appreciate the many strengths women have…
