A Mini Pick-Me-Up Part II

June 22nd, 2006 @ 12:54 pm by Mrs. Spider

Ok I admit it, the post below is my shameless attempt to inspire my BMs into planning a shower that will make me twirl and clap like a little girl. One of my BMs just revealed to me that the wheels are already in motion for planning the bridal shower extravaganza of the year - YAY~!!!

I told Mr. Spider over the phone just now and he got really quiet.

Me: What’s wrong?
Mr. Spider: I need to talk to Adrian (groomsman).
Me: What about?
Mr. Spider: I dunno, maybe he can plan me a grooms shower…
Me: OOoooOOoohhhhh nooOOo, you want a grooms shower?
Mr. Spider: maybe…
Me: awww with tiny sandwiches and flowers?
Mr. Spider: *sigh* that would be nice… maybe if you blog about it, Adrian will see it and plan something for me.
Me: OMG babeeee, I’ll plan you a grooms shower. I’LL DO IT~!!!!

Is there such a thing as a groom’s shower, I mean of course he’ll have a bachelor party but my little groom wants him a grooms shower and by golly Imma give him one.

if there isn’t a groom’s shower tradition, i wouldn’t fault you for starting one. personally, i wish there were more groom-centric events so that they could feel more a part of the process… i feel like the “wedding” is too abstract of a concept for some men to grasp so many months in advance–a few pre-wedding events to start grounding it in reality for them wouldn’t be so bad!

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA! Mr Spider is jealous!

Anyway.. in my opinion, a Grooms Shower should not have tiny sandwiches and flowers. It should have large slabs of MEAT, fried chicken, beer, and buffalo wings. And the decor should be flat panel TVs and video games. Yeah

My boyfriend’s best friend actually had a groom’s shower. Basically, every guy had to bring their own meat to grill, and they gave him presents like hardware tools, gift cards to Home Depot, lawn mower, guy stuff, etc.

My fiance and I are having a joint co-ed bridal/groom shower. My matron of honor and bride’s maids are doing all the planning but its going to be a guy friendly (and actually family friendly, kids are invited) BBQ/Crab feast (I’m originally from Md.) event. Plus, I’m so close with many of my friends’ husbands (I went to college with many of them) that if I’m in town I want to see everyone.

Actually, they’re typically called Honeydew showers. (As in, “‘Honey, do’ you think you could do this for me…?”) What I’ve seen some grooms do is register at someplace like Sears or Home Depot for tools or other things typically thought of as “male”.

For what one actually looks like, I’m not sure. But that’s what I’ve seen them called.

We have lots of wedding showers here in the South. It’s not strange for there to be 4 or more showers leading up to the wedding. We’re having a stock-the-bar party this weekend. I’ve been to tool showers, tool & garden showers, around the house showers (this is more a couple-thing than just a groom thing), gift certificate showers (again, this works for both - gift certificates for restaurants, stores where you’re registered, etc). My brother had just a general “guy shower” - he got most tools and things for the yard.
