The Making of an Invitation

June 27th, 2006 @ 11:32 am by Mrs. Spider

… which, according to most of you, will be thrown out anyways. *Sigh* Oh how the unappreciative peeve me…

Our printed invitation and RSVP cards arrived from Mygatsby last Friday. After finalizing the colors of the enclosure cards and picking up the rest of the components from Paper Presentation, we are down to the final decision of selecting a backing layer. My search for the perfect pink, brown and green pattern decorative paper has led me to the following choices. Ready, ok - BE INSPIRED~!

The Container Store - Wrap Delight: 5′ x 30″ [$3.99]

Paper Mojo - Chiyogami: 18″ x 24″ [$9.00]

Paper.com - Bertini: 19″x27″ [$48.51 for 15 sheets]

Paper-Source - Camden Fair: 26 1/2″ x 39″ [$6.50 for 2 sheets]

Luxe Paperie - Snow & Graham: 20″x30″ [$2.75] purchased at Paper Presentation in store [$7.50 for 2 sheets]

Even though I bought 5 rolls of the Snow & Graham print from Paper Presentation, I do not consider this choice our final one; I love the colors but the pattern is not busy enough. DECISIONS DECISIONS DECISIONS argh. I comfort myself with the thought that my research may serve to help or inspire others.

i’m in love with the Container Store one. (PaperSource and Paper Mojo are tied for second place in my mind, be it ever so subjective!)

are you making your invitations yourself? or assembling them, rather?
(i am in awe of anyone who has any craft talents at all. i have none.)

I love the Chiyogami one.

If it makes you feel better not everyone will throw them out. I always keep invitations from my good friends weddings.

If it makes you feel better, even before I got engaged and realized how important invitations are (LOL) I always saved invites and put them in my scrapbook along with pictures from the wedding.

bertini, definitely. it’s beautiful, it’s fun, and it’s not too feminine.

I like the Paper Mojo one– just goes to show all of your choices are liked by all! I hope you post a pic when you are done. Just out of curiousity, how exactly do you plan to use the gift wrap???

thanks for the input girls~! oh wait, didn’t mean to exclude the guys that read this blog too- thanks ALL.

the paper will be used as the backing layer of our 5 x 7 pocketfold invitation. it will go under the printed invitation so only about 1/4 of an inch of the paper will show. all this deliberation for 1/4 of an inch. *sigh* we will be making the enclosure cards and assembling everything ourselves. so stay tuned for pics…

I like Wrap Delight :) It’s very cheerful and whimsical and reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. You’ll be an Alice in her own Wonderland on your wedding day after all!

Paper Mojo - Chiyogami: Is Awesome! I actually bought a sheet of this from papermojo to see how I liked it in person and It’s so pretty I don’t want to use it!

i think it also depends on what kind of mood you want to set w/ your invites…the paper mojo & paper.com samples give me a more “formal” feel of paisley and such…whereas the container store & paper source samples are quite whimsical like kirizia described, each adds a cool trendy touch…they seem like prints i’d find within japanese design books - whichever print you pick, i’m sure your invites will be awesome!
