About Mrs. Daisy

My Other Job

June 29th, 2006 @ 7:07 pm by Mrs. Daisy

Having honed my shopping craft to some degree at a recent trip to the outlets, I proceeded to drag Mr. Daisy to start the wedding band search (we’re talking finger-wear here, not ear candy). At the suggestion of wedding planners Farrell and Jennifer, Mr. Daisy and I headed to Fragments in Soho on a very rainy Saturday.

In the past, we had great success at Fragments, but we didn’t plan on buying on this particular occasion. The trip was more of a reconnaissance mission. There weren’t a ton of men’s rings, but there were a couple of contenders. I wasn’t allowed to bring my camera with me (cough–strict Mr. D–cough) but we especially liked a few brushed platinum bands, with some tooling/indented lines and also plain.

Then yesterday, taking full advantage of my new part-time schedule, I headed to the Fifth Avenue shops to explore more ring options. At Tiffany, I found some classic options:

Somehow, in my quest to find Mr. Daisy a ring, I managed to find a band contender for myself as well:

the Tiffany Legacy ring

Aren’t I efficient? I kind of love that band for me but, at the same time, my engagement ring has detailing on the sides:

So I wonder if it’s a lame idea to block those details with a band that has plain, unblingy sides. I also suppose I could have the place that created the e-ring design a band of the same style, that would incorporate the e-ring band details, sans stone basket. Mr. Daisy thinks I should just switch my e-ring to my right hand once we’re wed, but I kind of like the stacked look. Do I switch? Do I stack? Do I customize a band?

And if I switch, then whatever do I do with my Trinity ring, which I love and currently wear on my right ring finger? And also happens to be the very first gift Mr. Daisy gave me, when we’d been dating just under 4 months.

However, all in all, I now am starting to realize the dangers Mr. Daisy warned me about. All this free time is allowing me to go completely batshit insane. I literally just spent the last 1/2 hour photoshopping my e-ring to approximate how a band in its style would look. I think this is my cue to head to the gym. For an entirely different kind of torture and stress.

for great classic men’s ring I HIGHLY suggest titaniumera.com

That’s where I got my fiance’s ring. and it was delivered within a week… free engraving on the inside also!

They have limited women’s bands. But the titanium if great for men. It’s tough.

…oh, but you do have to order the correct size cause it cannot be resized.

My engagement ring will be similar to yours, and my bf and i already discussed wedding rings. We’ve decided I will get a very simple thin wedding band, so not to cover up any of the details on the ring. Or I will wear it on the right hand (isn’t that the old school tradition)?

As for the trinity ring, I have a emerald ring that he gave me too and hesitant to ever take off. Your ring might look beautiful even on a chain as a necklace.

I have the same problem with side detailing - but since it is my FI favorite detail about the ring - we are getting me a band that matches his to wear when we hike, swim, raft etc. Basically anywhere I would be afraid to lose my e-ring. Doesn’t fix your stacked or unstacked question - but it is another option!

Aliya, we did look at titanium too, and love its lightness, look and durability, but we have that resizing fear…
Christina, that is a great idea to wear the ring on a chain. I actually do that sometimes when I am cooking and never thought of it as a permanent option. But it does look cute that way, so I may well do it! Thanks for the idea!!
gji7, what are you doing for the band on an everyday basis though?

My engagement ring is very detailed like yours so my husband and I faced the same problem. We decided to get a band custom made to match my e-ring and I stack them. Now when I look at my rings, I can’t imagine one without the other, and I get soooo many compliments!

This ring’s profile is definitely not as pretty as your engagement ring and may not be the right metal, but something like it might work stacked:

It’s good that the Tiffany ring looks like pave. Channel set will look rough next to the pave on your e-ring if you stack. I tried it once at the jewelry store and everyone there gave it a unanimous thumbs-down. A simple pave band stacked with a detailed ring like yours got many oohs-and-ahhs.

Obviously, I think it could be beautiful stacked. :)

as for the sizing on the titanium. it definately could be a problem (particularly if he randomly decides to gain or loose a on of weight) but i found that with a correct sizing at the jewlers my fiance’s turned out fine. …even with his large knuckles.

Anyway, I wont’ try doing any more convincing. Just letting you know that their sizing is very close to any jewler’s sizing.

I think your e-ring would be great on a necklace. That’s a great idea. your ring is very pretty. i wouldn’t stack that one. The side detailing is too pretty for that. Or you could wear the trinity ring on a necklace and wear the e-ring on the right hand.

For me, not only am I not getting another ring (i looooove my engagement ring and it’s a perfect wedding band) but my right hand is too big to wear the ring on it. as well as the curvature on the ring means it’s shaped for the left hand and definately not the right hand.

okay, i’m done.
