This isn’t exactly wedding-related, but I do need some help from you New Yorkers. We’ll be spending about half a day in New York before we depart from JFK for our honeymoon in Dubia. We arrive on a Monday around noon, and then fly out the next morning. We’re spending the night at the Waldorf-Astoria, and we’d like suggestions for how to spend our afternoon and evening. We were thinking about the Statue of Liberty - I’ve never been there, and my fiance hasn’t been to New York at all. Yes, cheesy, but we thought it might be fun. Any other suggestions for a Monday afternoon in July? Thanks!!

I’m going to be buying my paper from Paper Source. They have the best prices and beautiful colors.

Shelley, If you take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, I’d suggest *not* getting off at the island with the statue (you can’t climb it to the top anymore anyway and you can admire it just fine from the boat). Instead, get off at Ellis island for the immigration museum.

And watch a broadway musical! Phantom, Rent, Wicked, Ave Q- they are all amazing!

I’m looking for online websites in which I can design and order wedding dresses for myself and bridal parties. I know you guys featured cocomyles in the past and I was hoping someone knew of other online providers that have that feature.

The greatest supply of paper in NYC is at New York Central Art Supply — 62 Third Avenue (@ 11th St.). They have mountains of stuff!

Hey Shelley,

I’ve always loved the empire state building cliche as it sounds. When I first visited NY (before I moved here), it was one of my favorite things I did. And definitely catch a broadway play - but buy tix in advance and check for discounts on sites like theatermania. I find the most fun things about New York are just walking around the different neighborhoods. They’re all so distinct! Good luck!

For groomsmen gifts (and maybe even for some bridesmaids as well), we are thinking about getting some nice Lenox wine glasses and a bottle of wine. Then we also want to order a steak sampler from Omaha Steaks. I figure this is a nice way to give them something permanent (glasses) and also a little treat that they can use right away. I haven’t heard of people giving attendants food gifts - is that appropriate? We are having a fancy 300 guest Saturday night wedding at a country club near Princeton, and I am a little worried that those gifts will be too casual. But all the attendants are laid back and cool, I cannot imagine them complaining. Thoughts??

Hi Abbey,

I think those are wonderful gifts. Who doesn’t love a good steak?? Besides food is actually a quite popular wedding party gift (in the form of certificates to restaurants, monthly clubs, etc.).

I think your wedding party will be quite happy with the gift. I would bee. =)

Hi~
I was wondering what most people wear for the engagement pictures…
Personally, I don’t want to match with my fiance… I wanted to look more natural/everyday….
What did you guys all wear? What’s classy… not trying too hard..? And hopefully something I won’t regret that I wore ten years down the line….?

Chelles:

Try http://www.bridalsbydesign.com. I just googled it so I personally don’t know anything else about this online vendor.
