In today’s beehive, Nancy has a question about white veils on ivory dresses.

Please feel free to add your question to the beehive! :)

I think it depends entirely on the style of dress and of veil you’re talking about. The only way I would suggest pairing a dress and veil that don’t coordinate is to flaunt it, not act as if you tried really hard to match and couldn’t come up with something appropriate. In other words, if you put a small, subtle white veil with an ivory dress it might look a bit off; perhaps as if you didn’t put forth the effort to find coordinating pieces. But if the veil meets the dress and its pure white color picks up on the dress’s trim, embellishments, cut, or sheen, then you should be good to go.

If you can pull it off, flaunt it, then I say go for it! If you’re just giving up, then I encourage you to keep looking for the perfect matching veil. Either way, remember that it’s your (and your FH’s!) day, all eyes will be on you, and you’ll be the one looking at the pictures for the rest of your life. If you’re truly happy with the look and know in your gut that it truly is appealing and aesthetically pleasing, then by all means wear an ivory dress and white veil. But if it just doesn’t sit right with you, or if you’re having serious second-thoughts and self-doubt, I’d pursue other options.

Another thing to consider is that many bridal shops display veils in one shade or the other but are available for order in the perfect shade to match your dress–ask a professional for guidance concerning this.

Personally, I’d never deliberately pair a veil and dress that don’t match color or hue, but that’s just because I prefer a polished, more traditional look.

Hope I helped!

wow. really helpful advice. I guess I was wondering since there was a white veil that’d become available on craigslist but I’ve decided I’m not going to settle. thanks Katie :)

New beehive question…

Does anyone else feel like once you’ve read the blogs and the magazines, NOTHING feels fresh anymore? It’s so often just another version of something you’ve already seen somewhere else before — making it a little hard to ever get super excited (or as excited as your wedding financiers think perhaps you should be).

Hi Katie,

I actually had a white (more diamond white than stark white) veil and an ivory dress. The veil was my sister’s — it was the extact style I wanted, hand made and very expensive. I originally thought that I couldn’t use it because of the color difference, but the ladies at Mark Ingram Bridal Atalier (where I bought my dress) told me that it doesn’t really matter. The tulle is so thin, that it really just picks up the color of what ever is underneath. They had me bring the veil to one of my fittings and I it looked absolutely fine, couldn’t tell the difference in color at all!

A:
I know what you’re saying. I think that there is SOOO much information out there that it is easy to become “desensitized” to seeing the same colours, the same style of dress, the same accessories etc. over and over again. I mean, aren’t the elements of most weddings th same? Unless you want something (and are willing to pay for something) out of the ordinary, that is.
BUT, the best part of planning your wedding is that you can take bits and pieces from things that you have seen and really make them special.
I think a great example is being able to customize your bridesmaids dresses to suit their style and your colours! Or to send out adorable invitations like the paper doll books posted earlier.

The wedding is all about you and what you love. Take a bit of time to sit down and dream for a while. What do you want the venue to look like? How do YOU want to look?
Details are so important and you can make the planning process fun with creativity and imagination. Enjoy! This should be the fun part!

I would like to have professional lighting done at my wedding but do not want to spend an arm and leg for it. Can you recommend affordable lighting designers? Is there such a thing?

Right, Mrs. Firefly–that’s just what I was telling Nancy–do it loud and do it proud, and the look can be stunning!

a - i hear ya’~ i sometimes feel that each new issue of wedding magazines don’t really offer anything that is THAT fresh…but those are the time when i’m on a wedding “low” - but when i’m high on creativity, i tend to get so inspiried & excited by blogs(like this one) and pictures…i think ideas may seem repetitive b/c it is so classical, the most fun part is tweaking a concept so that you can make it yours~ just my two cents ;)
