About Mrs. Spider

Flowers

July 7th, 2006 @ 12:21 pm by Mrs. Spider

Last Saturday, Mr. Spider and I went to see two florists. Both are Jericho Terrace’s house vendors and both are highly raved about on the LIWeddings messageboard.

We stopped by Flower Michele first and then went down the street to Flowers by Brian. Here is what we were offered:

Flowers by Brian

  • 18 Tall CPs with high vase filled with green apples and medium size dome of roses and hydrangeas
  • Bridal bouquet - pink roses
  • 1 MOH and 6 BMs - roses with orchids
  • Tossing Bo-K
  • 1 Groom boutonniere
  • 6 GM bouts
  • 2 Moms
  • 2 Dads
  • 20 family bouts/corsages
  • Tulle and two rose domes for canapy
  • Tulle along aisles
  • Petals and votives for card table
  • Flowers for cake
  • Flowers for sweetheart table
  • Tray table [cocktail hour]
  • Bridal suite
  • Delivery of Bo-Ks to hotel

TOTAL: $3890
I also got the option of buying the apples myself for a discount of $360.

Flower Michele
same except

  • No bridal suite, tulle along aisle, votive candles, flowers for sweetheart table, votive candles for card table, no mention of delivery of Bo-Ks to hotel

TOTAL: $4038
They gave us the option of bringing in our own vases AND apples for a discount of $560.

Truth be told, Flower Michele has a better reputation. The girls on LIWeddings super heart Flower Michele so I posted my list and asked for opinions. A lot of people suggested that I ask FM to match FBB’s price, but before I got the chance to do that, John, the owner of FM sent me a message from the forum telling me that he wants to price match and asked me to call him. I couldn’t believe it. How easy was that?

I was all set to call him but I stopped and thought about it. This has now become a public competition - to both florists’ biggest demographic and I wanted to get the best deal possible. So I called FBB first and told them I needed them to go down on the price. And they did. I got them down another $10 per centerpiece.

With my new total in hand, I finally called John at Flowers by Michele. I laid it out on the table - Flowers By Brian is now giving me THIS price. He said that he would give me more flowers than FBB. We broke it down to exactly how many of each flower was going to be in the centerpieces. He promised to give me 30% more. So I said to him - look that’s really great but my guests are not gonna notice if there are 5 more roses in the centerpieces but I am definitely gonna notice if I have $500 more in my pocket. Seriously, what’s 3 more hydrangeas gonna do for me? It’s not gonna put 500 more dollars in my hand I’ll tell you that.

So John has a good chuckle and finally says he’ll match the price AND give me 30% more flowers. Nowww we’re talking right? Haha, not quite so fast. I tell him that Flowers By Brian invited us back this Saturday to see samples - maybe I’ll be wowed I tell him.

“Come straight from there,” John says “and I’ll show you WOW.”

“John,” I said, “I like how you think.” Haha.

OH my… I wish I had your balls. :) I’m so bad at bargaining… which is why I’m taking my best gal pal with me (my planner) to make sure i”m getting a good deal from my future vendors. Congrats! I hope you’ll have some pictures to post.

Hope you get the deal w/ FM! Just from personal experience of friends’ wedding… John is such a nice guy! FM’s centerpieces and bouquets are beautiful & clean. And they’re on time and keep up with the schedule! The flowers always arrived fresh and beautiful!
