About Mrs. Caterpillar

Maybe Baby

July 7th, 2006 @ 10:49 am by Mrs. Caterpillar

One of the myriad of reasons people decide to marry — up there with sharing health benefits and getting a Dyson vacuum — is to start families. Mr. Caterpillar and I are on the 5 year plan — a compromise made up of his ideas of “Babies Right Now, RIGHT NOW!” and my feelings of “Before 35, but Not Much Before.” Interestingly, it seems that after men get over their (maybe real/maybe imagined/maybe socially imposed) notions of idealized bachelor life and choose to commit, they want to have families right away. In any case, I’m just wondering –

When will you schedule your babybees to arrive?

I’ve always thought I’d have a bevy of little boys running around playing tag football. Now that I’m older, and planning a career that would force me to either quit or put my baby(ies) in daycare forever, I’ve decided not to have any which is also fully supported by my fiance. However, we too have a 5 year plan. From 5 years after marriage, we’ll redecide if we want kids at all (esp after all our other married friends start popping out kiddies).

we had a plan… 2-21/2 years after marriage. but that seems so soon. honestly if i were younger, i think i could easily wait 4-5 years before having kids. married life is nice and i kinda want to enjoy it.

Mrs. Rose

Well, Mr. Rose and I have have been happily child-free over 5 years now, and have no plans for the pitter-patter of little feet around our place — although we enjoy the pitter-patter of little paws.

I have fertility issues, and the effort, time and trouble it would have taken, especially considering Mr. Rose is in the Army and is constantly on deployment or in the field or working 12-14 hours a day — just plain not available for the actual trying to get me pregnant — would not have made trying fertility treatment worthwhile for us.

We gotten used to not having children, and are veyr comfortable now with being childfree — although we still have people asking us when we are going to get started with that…
