The Cost of Different Weddings

July 17th, 2006 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Bee

I saw this over on Bridalwave and thought it was interesting - it’s Consumer Report’s breakdown of wedding costs for 4 different types of weddings.

Seriously, is New York City the most expensive place to get married in the United States??? Oh yah - Wedding rings and honeymoon are not included in the calculations above.

yup. It certainly is. Its a lot of wheeling and dealing to try to get the price down. In fact I had to sick my mother on one of the poor vendors to get a bargain. It worked better than I thought…

I would like to see a wedding for 175 people on only 22K, that seems a little small, and I was married in Minneapolis, MN.

We had 250 people at our wedding and it cost less than $15,000. We got married in CA, too.

We’re here in Northern CA. For exactly 175 people, my best friend’s wedding costed around $45,000. And she even made some of the stuffs herself… invitations, programs, menus, etc. She also did her own makeup.

We are getting married in Hawaii and we have 35 guests for $8k. No one said we could do it for under $10k, but we’re out to prove them wrong!

You can tell what the average for the area you’re planning to get married in at this website: http://www.costofwedding.com/
The Orlando average is at $29K, two Houston zips gave me $21K and $32K, Dallas zips gave me from $30K to $35K, and $42K for both of the Non-LA southern california zips I tried. But be of good cheer, Katie. You don’t have to have all of the extras. That’s how I’m going to stick to my budget at a third of the local average for my area!

Here in Orange County, CA a nice (but by no means fancy) wedding for 150 people will set you back $35,000.

I checked out the “Cost Of Wedding” website.. interesting to see the costs of different cities. But i find it very surprising and hard to believe that San Francisco is quite cheaper than San Jose. Based on the research I’ve done so far for my planning, it’s quite the opposite.

i checked out the costofwedding site, recommended by Nony Mouse.
let’s just say that Consumer Reports and Mrs. Bee are correct–NY is not home to the bargain wedding:

“On average, couples will spend $72,516.99 for their wedding in New York, New York 10021. This does not include cost for a honeymoon, engagement ring, bridal consultant or wedding planner. Add that in and cost could reach $96,150.00.”

I also made a trip to the cost of weddings website, and let’s just say I wish we had a censored emoticon for these comments, because I certainly used some choice words after I put our current zip code in. I had even more when I put our possible future zip code in and price went up by $11,000.

Now because we are having a vow renewal and not first-time wedding, we don’t have to pay for the license again (like they do in the UK), but that didn’t reduce the price by much.

By the time I finished with that site, poor Mr. Rose had to bring me a sedative. And a beer.

Have mercy.
