Decisions, Decisions

July 18th, 2006 @ 12:16 pm by Mrs. Daisy

Here I am, obsessing over my day-after-the-wedding brunch, as I am wont to do. Barring a brunch at IHOP, where I’d obviously vote for the Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity (or maybe the Funny Face), I’m sort of lost.

I am having a menu dilemma* since I have decided that with an omelette station, the assigned buffet item of “scrambled eggs” is a bit redundant, because what else is an omelette, if not a variation on scrambled eggs.

Here is the menu as it stands:

Freshly Squeezed Orange and Grapefruit Juice
Seasonal Fresh Fruit with Mixed Berries
***
Herbed Scrambled Eggs
New York Style French Toast
Home Fried Potatoes
Applewood Smoked Bacon and Country Sausage
***
Omelette Station
****
Smoked Salmon Platter
Sliced Onions, Sliced Tomatoes and Capers
***
Baker’s Basket of Bagels, Muffins, Danish and Croissants
Assorted Breads
Toaster
****
Warm Vermont Maple Syrup and Butter
Preserves, Honey and Cream Cheese
****
Starbucks Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee and Tazo Chai Tea

So now these are the choices to swap in lieu of the scrambleds:

  • Quiche
  • Frittata
  • Fruit Blintzes
  • Waffles
  • Pancakes

Which do I pick? Are pancakes and waffles too evocative of the french toast already in the buffet? And is a frittata similar to the scrambled eggs i’m trying to lose?

If you could design your dream buffet, what would it include?

~~~
* As you may or may not have come to realize, when it comes to the wedding, I view everything in disproportionate terms. It’s endearing, I think.
i vote waffles!!
they’re crispy, as opposed to softer french toast or pancakes…
I’d go for the quiche or blintzes since they are a bit different from the items already on your menu :-)
i forgot to mention that i’m also considering a waffle station (in addition to the omelette station), just to make things more complicated!
i vote quiche for the people who want eggs but don’t want to deal with a line and waiting for their ommelette. and quiche is different enough, a lot of people love it for the pastry crust.
Yum, this is making me hungry! I think quiche would be my first choice for an alternative, with frittata as a second. I don’t think scrambled eggs is a bad choice, though, for people who just want basic eggs and not an omelette.
Along the lines of felicity’s comment, I think you should leave the eggs. I would much rather get my eggs plain from the buffet than wait to get plain eggs from an omelette station. Although, the frittata is a good idea, but very similar to an omelette unless you have just cheese or something “plainish” in it…
That is quite the spread! People love waffles, but quiche would cover a new section of the brunch.
Waffles!! And I think that you could take off the scrambled eggs. If someone really wants just a scrambled egg, they can just get that at the ommelette station and just ask for nothing in it!
ah, thanks for all the feedback. the waffles and quiche seem to be the top contenders, here and in my opinion too! Mr. Daisy weighed in with a vote for the fruit blintzes (as a different option) so i may do those since i’ve pretty much control freaked every other aspect of the wedding. and a waffle station too. b/c that’s just fun.
