About Mrs. Snail

Music

July 18th, 2006 @ 9:39 am by Mrs. Snail

For my wedding, I’ll be having a Korean DJ. I have yet to meet him but he’s supposedly well known in the wedding business. He was also highly recommended by my photographer, which gave him my parents’ nod of approval.

My fiance wants Korean music. I want hiphop and jazz. The last wedding I attended was about a 4 years ago (if not longer) so I don’t even remember the music.

Whatever music we play, I want all the guests to have a good time. The last thing I want is the awkward moment where the music starts and people don’t want to be the first one out to shake their booty, so they wait forever for one brave soul to get out on the dance floor.

What kind of music is usually played at weddings? Is hip hop a no-no at weddings? I know for certain after a few drinks, I would definitely want to hear some.

Any suggestions on songs that make you want to bolt up out of your seat like your hind’ is on fire and shake it?

i think it depends on the crowd, i am indian and we usually have hip hop at our weddings, along with indian music, because most people will dance to it. i think you have to be a little more careful not to pick inappropriate songs but the dj should know that anyway…

i strongly recommend “Lose Control” by Missy Elliot feat. Ciara. I went to a wedding about two weeks ago, and I was feeling a bit shy about dancing, but as soon as this song came on, I rushed out of my seat onto the dance floor.

it’s going to be mostly hip-hop & reggae at mine. it all depends on the type of guests you have. there is no such thing as a no-no at your own wedding.

like everyone said on top, it really depends on you and your guests.
if you enjoy hiphop then have it.
like “S” said…just make sure not to play any inappropriate songs. either pick out your songs or make sure to tell him that.

I think that since it’s YOUR wedding, you should play whatever you please! Granted, like others have said, no innapropriate songs, but that’s a given. :)

You can play whatever you want, definitely!

What my DJ suggested was to build up to hip hop (if that’s what you want)–i.e. start out with some “easier” music and then get to the harder stuff.

A work colleague did a mostly hip-hop reception–she said that they built up to it as well. By the end, her “Korean aunties” were jumping up and down to Jump Around.

peachy

i find that whenever you play totally 80’s songs - especially “bizare love triangle” all the asians run out on the dance floor… something about the euro-mix songs and erasure does it for us yellow people.

how sad, but true.

hip hop is definitely a “go” in my book, esp. if you have a larger YOUNG crowd :)

80s are always good too :)
