About Mrs. Ladybug

Random Blah Blahs…

July 21st, 2006 @ 4:56 pm by Mrs. Ladybug

What up chicas?! I got back on Sunday from Puerto Rico (HO). I’ve just been swamped at work. I’ll post photos today after I get back home or maybe tomorrow when the hubs goes to play golf.

Today I went to see a dermatologist. I’ve always had acne, but these past 2 weeks I’ve just been fed up with my skin. He told me that I just have a lot of clogged pores and prescribed Retin-A Micro and Benza Clin. I’ll let you guys know how that turns out. For you lucky bitches with perfect skin, can I just say that I hate you? I’m 30 and I’m still breaking out. How sad is that? My uncle goes, “Hey Sujan! You still teenajah?” then proceeds to laugh. Yeah real funny…you bastage. That just cost you your Happy Birthday call from me this year. I sing it in my pretend opera voice.

Man I wish I had perfect skin for my wedding but then I thought I’ll just photoshop everything! Who else gets annoying breakouts? And I’m not talking about just that ONE pimple on your otherwise flawless face. I’m also thinking about photo-rejuvenation. Has anyone done that? I’m also thinking about removing the tattoo that I got after a breakup with an ex. Man, girls do really stupid things after breakups.

my friend uses this prescription line called obagi. this blog i read - bryanboy - said that he had really bad skin until he started using it (he’s posted before and after pictures). it’s supposed to be really really good.

I’m removing 2 tattoos right now (1 I got after a bad break-up)…It takes forever, is mucho dinero, and hurts, but it’s worth it!

i used differin a while back.
i think its less harsh on your skin then retinA.

try drinkin green tea also, it always helps clear out my skin.

Well, Mrs. Ladybug, I’m ALLERGIC to the sun. So I’d rather have bad skin than the inability to be out in the sun longer than 10 minutes without blistering. What the heck am I going to do about our outdoor wedding? My sunscreen makes me look like Powder.

dingbatkim says:

watch out for retina-A. i tried it once and it made my skin even worse. i broke out more and my skin was always red and dry. if’s a matter of clogged pores, go w/ differin. it’s also a vitamin-a derivative and should do the same job w/o the harshness of retin-A. i’ve been using it and love it. also helps w/ the wrinkles too - not that you have any… :P

I’ve never had perfect skin…but it’s getting better as I age…(at the ripe ol’ age of 20, I can’t believe I’m saying that…lol).

Let us know how it all works out.

welcome back mrs. ladybug. you are my favorite blogger!

I just made an appointment with a dermatologist for the boy and myself. Photoshop or not, I don’t want to look like this on my wedding day. My biggest problem is I get cyst-like pimples that last for weeks. They better fix me up good. No amount of vitamins, cleansing products, water, and healthy eating seem to be helping.

10.
Mrs. Ladybug says:

dels: you are one of my favorite readers! haha

i feel better knowing that you all have facial imperfections too. i don’t feel so alone.

amber: please email me back. i’d like to hear more about your skin condition.

Mrs. Ladybug says:

jessica: when i went to my derm he said for the deep cyst like pimples they give cortisone shots. i get those every now and then too. i feel ya girl!

es says:

my sister started breaking out with those small pimples all over. She tried proactive with no luck, but the pimple-ettes all disappeared in a matter of days after she started using obagi. she swears by it. i think it’s pretty affordable too.

Liz says:

if you have cystic acne, you’ll need something stronger than topicals — most likely doxycycline or another oral antibiotic. It usually takes 4-6 weeks to see some results, so you should give yourself sufficient time before you wedding. hope this helps!

janie says:

have you ever given proactiv a shot? it really works! only problem is that it tends to dry out my skin a little much. after the 3 step treatment, make sure to use another moisturizer on top of that.

i’ve been breaking out like crazy lately too. as of now, my most DISTINCT one is my big red third eye … right in between my brows. it’s shiny bc i put neosporin on it AND … im shielding it with the bridge of my glasses, altho it slides down and sits comfortably at the spot where it basically displays my third eye in plain view.

* sigh *

15.
holly says:

i used to put neosporin on my pimples-it would heal the first one pretty fast, but then i would simply get another one right around the same area. i just stick to good old clearasil.

16.
mrs ladybug says:

i’ve tried proactiv and clearasil. both do nothing for me. i also tried cleocin t but right when it clears up i get break outs. i tried tazorac before and i thought it was really good.

i’m also a picker. i can’t help it.

I’m prone to cystic acne (gross, I know) and my esthetician gave me a glycolic acid peel. I peeled like s nake afterwards but it’s reduced my acne, lightened my scarring, and for a few weeks after the peel I was less oily.

Chrissie says:

I use Desitin on my really bad pimples. Yes, the baby butt cream!! I thought it was wacked when I first heard the trick, but it dries the mean pimples out just like it dries out baby rashes.

Mrs. Bee, I don’t see any posts on the bryanboy blog you’re talking about. Is it protected?

I used to use BenzaClin and it worked for me, it’s just really expensive.
Good luck with it!

stress(in the form of pimples and blackheads) were literally written all over my face 2 years back. Luckily, my fiance gave me a $500 spa certificate to Oasis Day Spa.. I used it to get facials and within a year, my face completely cleared up. There have been mixed reviews about the effectiveness of facials, but it really worked for me!

MizzPiggeys says:

Use Aqua Glycolic Toner and Facial Wash. You can order it through you local pharmacists. I’ve been using it, and it works like a charm.

My parents always tell me to eat more fruits (pears, apples, and watermelon) and all sorts of veggies (e.g. watercress is good for skin).

GL!

glass says:

I have acne problems too and i’m so worried about breaking out on my wedding day…

In pharmacy school we are told to counsel patients that ALL acne medications take at least 4 to 6 weeks to see benefits. Kinda sucks when what you need is something to zap it ASAP! I’m surprised that the derm didn’t give you an antibiotic RX as well as the cream. I think i should go to my derm also and get some prescriptions to start using beforehand.

25.
Mrs. Bee says:

kitty,

http://www.bryanboy.com/ this is the link to his site. he has a huge link up on the front page to the post where he writes about his acne.

i also know several people who had really bad acne, did accutane and never had bad breakouts again. but i’d be really wary of accutane because of the crazy side effects!

JJ says:

I completely feel ya…my skin is not perfect & there are good days & bad days & stress makes everything so much worse :P

I just hope I dont stress out when I start planning for own wedding & then have to end up being the least beautiful bride on the planet *sigh*

anyway, here are my 2 cents: Differin is great~ I have had everything from whiteheads to cystic acne, & differin for me is better than retinA.

Also, Mrs. Ladybug, I absolutely adore your blogs & i hope this skin stuff works out for ya, girl~! =)

i went to a dermatologist a few months back to take care of my acne too — i always had acne, and got lazy about it and then decided to do something about it since my wedding is coming up!! every person’s skin and acne problem is different but i was instructed to take retin - a again and another medication that comes in a foam. it’s clindamycin phosphate foam.

you really need to stick to the retin a if you’re using it, and give yourself a few months for it to work. the way it works, is that it promotes skin turnover so that your skin doesn’t clog as much. i think it also slows down oil production. the medication takes time to change the composition of the skin so that it doesn’t get clogged as much. so you need to be patient with it.

my skin really didn’t clear up from the acne until about three months later. i still have blemishes but not as much as before. also the clindamycin foam works really well on the deep red pimples (cysts i guess?) — it shrinks the cyst almost 50% by the next day. and if you are really good about applying the foam often and as soon as you feel your skin “hurting” from a cyst deep in your skin, it can even shrink the size of the cyst by the time it does come out. i’ve been using all types of acne medication my whole life — and i really think this stuff is gold. i think the foam helps the medication to sink deep down inside the pores. this stuff is pricey though even with insurance. :P

however if you have a lot of cysts all the time, i think you should probably take oral antibiotics?

more than anything else, i think the key to clearing up acne is persistence. if you’re not satisfied with your results, either go back to the dermatologist and let him/her know it’s not working and/or switch to another dermatologist that will take you and your desire to get rid of acne seriously.

i don’t recommend wasting your time with over the counter products though if your wedding is coming up really soon… it takes a lot of time for even effective prescription medications to work.

I’ve been cursed with bad skin ever since puberty. I’ve taken every prescription known to man and nothing has helped. Last year I started accutane in preparation for my wedding day. My skin is clear now and no pimples on my wedding day. I am finally able to wear sleavless shirts, and dresses.

Watch out for retin a. I used it in the past and it made my skin like raw meat (top layer of skin was gone). Very painful and embarrassing.

I think after 28 teenage acne turns into adult acne since I’ve been breaking out as well. I’ve been presc. BenzaClin and it worked for me but it is expensive and it expires too quick… I’ve been using Cetaphil cleanser as my dermatologist has suggested and i’ve been okay. My demo has suggested weekly micro dermabrasion and I’ve been using Loreal mirco derma. and it has been working well… as for here and there break out, I have no idea why it does that!?!?! weather? food? ;o/

btw… i enjoy your entries as well. ;o)

31.
Katie says:

OOoh I vote for Cetaphil, too! I’ve been using it since I was about 15 (I’m 20 now) when everything else made me break out. The Cetaphil is soooo gentle but gets the job done! I usually put it on at the beginning of my shower and then wash it off last thing before the end of my shower–it seems to really get in there!

I’m breaking out now, though, more than I have in quite a while–probably need to cut down on those fries, lol.

B says:

According to traditional Chinese medicine, not all fruits & veggies are equal. Apparently there are “warming” and “cooling” foods. Acne is a sign of too much heat, so when you break out, you’re supposed to avoid “warming” foods like mango, pineapple, and lychee. Watermelon and coconut juice are supposed to be cooling. Apples are considered neutral.

M says:

I’ve tried just about everything out there - from the cheap drug store stuff (Clearasil, Clean & Clear, etc) to the more expensive stuff (Proactiv, Murad, etc)…nothing really worked all that well for me, my skin would clear up a little in the beginning, then just go back to normal, so I visited a dermatologist recently too. I’m on Differin, Benza Clin, and Dynacin (it’s an oral antibiotic, I think?). I think I like Differin a lot more than I like the Benza Clin, which made my skin really dry and I think it feels sticky. It’s been two months and my skin is showing VERY SLIGHT improvement. This better end up being worth it. :)

y says:

ever try the aspirin mask? (crush ~4 tablets of aspirin in a couple drops of water, cetaphil) i’ve found it work wonders: pores are smaller, face is smoother, breakouts instantly stop. the aspirin works like salicylic acid, drying out the pimples, and the grainy texture works as an exfoliator. googling it should come up with better discussion/instructions about it.

you know what’s absolutely fabulous? BIRTH CONTROL PILLS! since most of us get acne due to hormonal changes, a monocyclic pill evens everything out. i used to have horrible acne and really painful/irregular periods. now i just take the pill straight for a few months at a time and it solve both probs!
