Open Question: Kimono Robes

July 28th, 2006 @ 1:31 pm by Mrs. Bee

Hi :)

First of all, I wanted to tell you that your site has been an indispensible resource thus far in my planning. Although I don’t live in NYC, I read daily as I particularly love to see the new product and gift ideas. :)

Which brings me to my next question:

Do you or your readers have any great ideas on where to find very inexpensive satin kimono style robes? I would love to throw a monogramed robe in with my girls’ gifts but since I am paying for thier dresses amongst MANY other gift, I am on a tight budget.

Thanks for all of your help!

A Bride

As a Japanese major, I wouldn’t say that they are absolutely “authentic,”, but good enough.

Victoria’s Secret has short satin ones. Aim for one of their semi-annual sales for really good deals.

Assuming that you’re just looking for the shiny satin bathrobes with kimono sleeves, and not the real thing, the very cheapest place to get them is actually in China; if there are any Chinese import knickknack type stores around you, you should be able to pick them up for pretty cheap, although you’d have to get the monogramming done elsewhere. Another option, if you’re even remotely able to sew, is to make them yourself. Seriously, the things are insanely easy to make; you can get a pattern and a wide range of fabrics in any sewing store, and they don’t require any special abilities or technology beyond a very basic sewing machine.
