Hi Britty,

We had a march wedding and planned it all in 6 months. Since May isn’t a “peak” month, you should have ample time from Halloween to May to plan your nuptials.

try posting job offers in & around your local colleges or prestigous music schools. there are always very talented students out there who wouldn’t mind getting some extra cash.

also don’t underestimate your friends and family. i’m planning on having a string trio from my musical cousins & sister. i’m sure this will not only be memorable, but very special as well.

Mrs. Bee what makes you say May is not a popular wedding month? As far as I understand it May, June, September and October are the most popular months to get married in NY.

Where do you live Britty? You may have some difficulty booking a Saturday night wedding in NYC (and possibly Long Island) but if you are flexible with the time and location, you should be able to find places that work for you.

I am an avid reader of this website… so if I’m doing this wrong, please forgive me! :) I’m a first time commenter!!
I was wondering if anyone knew of a great place/company to buy my wedding dress undergarments from…?

Becky-O says:

I’m so thankful I found your website. It has come in handy on more than one occasion. :-) I’m not a NYC bride, but my fiance and I are coming to NYC for our honeymoon. Can you and the other NYC brides help me find some great restaurants in NYC to try while we are there? My only specific request is I need to find one fantastic Japanese restaurant (My fiance is half Japanese). I’d also love to have some ideas for some of NYC best kept secret restaurants too.

Airline ticket- invitationsbydawn.com in their search engine type “ticket” and it should be the first one. It opens up to look like an airline ticket. Hope this helps!

Becky-O, my fiance and I looove Japanese food. Here are our favorites: Sakagura (small plates), Katsuhama (katsu & curry), Sugiyama (kaiseki), Sapporo (ramen), Seo (udon), Fukumatsu (reasonably priced, extensive menu), Sushi Seki (omakase), Nobu (celebrity, fusion)

Emmy, I’m not sure which undergarments you need. But I’ve heard great things about flattering me bras.

Also, for petticoats… there are a lot of vendors online. But make sure you pick one that’s right for your dress. For example, if your dress is sheer… it wouldn’t be a good idea to wear one with an elastic waistband… since it would create lumps!

Becky - for pizza check out Lombardis or Grimaldis (in brooklyn). for the best steak i’d recommend striphouse. you have to have a shake shack burger in madison square park (the best!) if you like falafel, check out mamouns. for the ultimate brunch check out normas in the le parker meridian hotel.

even tho mr. bee is half japanese, we don’t really eat that much japanese so sorry i can’t be more help there. =)

Thanks for the great suggestions! Also, I wanted to second the other reader… Steph… and say you are very popular in Chicago! I live in Chicago right now, and must say that I have told everyone about this site! :)

What is the standard for tipping vendors? Are there particular tips for particular vendors?

When things go wrong at your wedding……

After a year of meticulous planning, some things did go wrong at my wedding–
I spent three hours and thousands of dollars with a florist who decided to do her own thing, ignoring my three paged typed document of requests she agreed on, and delivering wilted bridesmaid bouquets.

My bridal party had to drive in a limo with no a/c because the driver was too cheap to turn it on, and it was 90 degrees….

And, my HIGHLY recommended day-of coordinator was rude to some guests and just overall not that good.

Is there anything I can do now? I am not suggesting legal action, and I have posted these things on theknot, but I don’t think its fair that people can get away with this. I called the florist the morning after the wedding, and she said she would not refund anything because I signed a document saying that she could substitute flowers as needed.

Any advice?? Thank you!

arbela - check out this post on tipping:

Miss Beetle’s company paperbride is also releasing a cool tipping guide very soon. it takes all the guesswork out of who to tip and how much to tip on the big day!

Britty says:

Jennifer - I live in upstate NY. No where near a city. As far as finding places - we will be looking into do that sort of thing most likley BEFORE the engagement. Just to make sure they are reserved.

Thanks for all your help - everyone.

Becky - O …. what kind of food are you looking for? I would suggest John’s Pizzeria in Time Square. It was honestly the best pizza I had ever had. They do serve other food too.

Becky-O says:

Thanks, Ladies, for the scoop on NYC restaurants. I think I have a lot of research to do now. Thank goodness most of these restaurants have menus online. :-) If you have any more ideas, please post them.

Britty - I’m looking for really any recommended restaurants, in all prices ranges. I’d especially love to hear about the little hole in the wall places only real NYers would know about. (ie Mrs. Bee’s Shake Shack is a perfect example)

Becky-O,
You may want to check out the NY Times Dining blog
http://dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.com/. It is always an interesting read plus I enjoy what the readers have to share. As for Japanese food, I think Blue Ribbon Sushi has really fresh fish and pieces that you don’t often see elsewhere. There’s a location in Brooklyn (the only one I’ve frequented) which I hear is better than the one in Manhattan. I like Rai Rai Ken for their ramen and I think they are very similar to the ramen shops in Japan. Oh and keep in mind that Shake Shack is only open in the summer and that there are often very long lines but oh so worth it!!

Miss Daisy says:

Becky-O, one thing to account for re: Shake Shack is the lines. it’s (unfortunately) not a well-kept secret and you can end up waiting a while (though so worth the wait!)

Corner Bistro is another burger place, though it’s still great, it used to be better-than-great. (account for those lines too!)

Tomoe has great sushi.
