Open Question: Ceremony Music

August 1st, 2006 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. Bee

I’m at a bit of a loss when searching for ceremony music. I want something that won’t break the bank, but sounds classy. I’d love suggestions on actual pieces of music, as well as performance groups (trio? harpist?). Any suggestions??

well, really, it would first depend on where you are having your ceremony… what type of venue.

like if you’re having it in a formal cathedral-esque church, then you should go more chamber trio/quartet… more classical music.

but if you’re doing a casual outdoor-type ceremony, then you can go more simple w/ one violinist, or even a professional acoustic guitarist.

i’m doing an outdoor rooftop ceremony, so i had to nix the piano quartet… instead i’ve hired a professional harpist, who will be playing solo. we’ll have her mike’d so the sound will carry, and she’ll be playing both classical songs as well as more contemporary music.

We’re having an acoustic guitar–Fi’s guitar teacher from a million years ago.

However, if we didn’t have the guitar, I’d lobby for a single solo cello. I LOVE the cello.

We’ve been listening to The Bach Cello Suites at home–the first one is my favorite (I’d link to Amazon, but it’s sloooooow right now)

We’re having a harpist–the epitome of elegance, IMHO. Though I also think a cello would be LOVELY–such a warm tone!

I attended the wedding of my ex-boyfriend’s sister a couple of years back, and she had a friend playing acoustic guitar. It was very pretty, but he just kept playing the same Beatles song over…and over… and over… I don’t know if that was his choice or the couple’s, but it was interesting to say the least. lol.
