In today’s beehive:

  • D is looking for a company to print letterpress invites.
  • Becky-O wants to know if postcard RSVP’s worked for you.

See the most recent beehive here. To add your question to the beehive, leave a comment and we’ll update this post to include your question.

So, I’d really like to do postcards for my response cards since it saves money in postage and on the envelope. But I’m worried about getting them back. The post office is so unreliable as it is. So, my question is…does anyone have any experience with using the postcards? Is it worth the savings??

i used postcards for my save the date, everyone so far has received them. and actually i’m thinking about using postcards as the rsvp aslo :)

i think it is worth the savings… but you should do what you’re comfortable with.

I had postcard response cards and we had no problems receiving them back. It was definitely worth the savings.

Postcards can be scary I think. it’s very easy for them to get lost — especially if you are having them sent to a home other than your own (like a parent’s). I know a girl who had postcard STDs and several people remarked that they almost didn’t even see them because of the junk mail they got. I think you’d need to be careful about sorting through the mail if you did them for RSVPs. Those are too important.

Hello D & Becky-O,

I am doing letterpress postcard for RSVP — a combination of your questions! Haha.

Anyway, D, I am in the process of working with Travis at Parklife Press (http://www.parklifepress.com/). Travis won’t be designing mine (my sis is), but you can view his designs on the website. He has a very reasonable rates and is very responsive via email.

As for postcard RSVP, Becky-O, I think it’s a great way to save and to be somewhat unique in that RSVP routine.

Happy planning.

I used this letterpress shop:

They were great and they offer customized designs as well as printing. Highly recommended!

I did postcards and relized it was a mistake. Eventhough we save a lil $ on it, it got lost in the mail or it took forever it arrive. Pple said they mailed it a week ago and we barely recieved it. And it’s all w/in the local area. Strange.

Also, on guest complained that why postcards? He couldn’t come to the wedding but wanted to send us a check as a gift, if we had an envelope, he could’ve sent it along w/ the rsvp. Much easier for them. Darnit, good point. Oh wells. Too late. So I recommend not going w/ postcards.

We used reply postcards and they were fine. If you go with postcards, just make sure that the cardstock that you use is heavy enough, so they don’t get lost easily. But, Lilcee makes a good point that I never thought about - guests who want to send a check with the rsvp card. But, on the other hand, I would think that the guest would want to mail their check inside a nice wedding card or something closer to your wedding date?

We used postcard RSVPs and have been having no trouble getting them back. They have been coming in at a steady flow for the past week! It is worth the savings.

I’m currently working with the events coordinator at my venue (golf country club) and I’m wondering if I should still hire a day of wedding coordinator. Even though the events coordinator said she’d be there the day of my wedding, I still have doubts as to how much she’s actually going to take on. How many of you hired a day of coordinator in addition to any help you were getting from the venue or are those “day of” responsibilities really part of the events coordinator’s job? Thanks!

What on-line bridal registries would you recommend for monetary gifts? We are hoping to avoid (or keep to the minimum) shipping & handling and commission fees. Creative non-online ideas are welcome, too!
Thanks!

Arbela, My venue also has an event coordinator, but I hired a full service wedding coordinator (will also be coordinating the day of the wedding). I did so mostly because while I love my venue, the event coordiantor doesn’t understand my style or the vibe of my wedding/reception. I’m going for much more of a party theme and the event coordinator for my venue is older and very traditional. I simply didn’t have confidence that she understood my vision and therefore no confidence in her ability to execute my wants on the big day. My wedding coordinator will work with her on the wedding day and the event coordinator will manage the staff, food, etc. My wedding coordinator will manage the actual decor, flowers, photographer, band, ceremony, cocktail party, reception and me.

I think your decision depends on the size and complication of your day and whether the event coordinator can manage your wedding and understands that its her responsibility to do so.

I’m not sure I’m understanding Christine’s question about online registry. You can and/or register for money?

I’ve been to bridal showers before, but when it comes to engagement parties are guests suppose to bring gifts? This is my first time being invited to one. Thanks!
