No. I've gilded the heads of pins to make sure they looked properly antique. Gilded them. Then coated them in german glass glitter. I am that crazy.
About Mrs. Caterpillar

This little note came tucked into the pocket of the garment bag my dress came in –

To the bride on her Wedding Day:

A bridal “Dresser” is the best insurance on your Wedding Day for a flawless appearance. The unavoidable crease, etc. caused by traveling/handling of the gown, as well as bustling and dressing the bride perfectly, are expertly handed by bridal Dressers. We have Dressers that we may refer for your hiring.

I like how it starts off all precious moments style, then quickly devolves into a shameless pitch for something utterly crazy superfluous. Dressers? I need people — more than one, apparently — to come dress me? What exactly do they think I’ve purchased besides a white dress?

I would do it.
I paid thousands for my dress, and I think it got a little wrinkled after I picked it up from the store, brought it to the hotel, then had my PA’s drive it to the church. What is an extra couple hundred to avoid that stress??

Mary– “What is a couple extra hundred to avoid that stress??”

To me, it’s adding a couple more items to my dessert buffet, having to-die-for decorations or getting the cake topper I really want. Remember, not everyone’s lucky enough to have a ginormous budget.

in my opinion, that’s what my family and bridesmaids are for. I wouldnt want some “dresser” that I paid for helping me get dressed. It’s a very personal moment, i personally wouldnt want hired help in those special shots. And regarding a bustle, the store usually provides good instructions on how to.

Katie, I definitely did not have an unlimited budget either–
Having just gone through the wedding, I can know prioritize what is most imporant for me now. And I think every bride scrutinizes every little thing in her photos.
I guess the most important thing is to have a plan for your getting your dress to the ceremony—that was a last minute decision for me, and thankfully I had a PA who could help out at the last minute. But a dresser can make sure your bustle is 100% correct, too, and I have seen more messed up bustles in my day. :)

I think it’s just a waste of money. I for one, wouldn’t hire anyone, and I agree that it’s a personal moment, and that you should include your BMs, and your mother…I know that’s what I’m going to want. And honestly, no matter WHAT you do, or WHO you hire, there are going to be little things that go wrong in your wedding, and I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. I’m not perfect, either. ;)

Putting on a dress definitely requires a team of trained professionals - I mean, do the buttons go in the front or the back? Does the crinoline go over or under the skirt? I’m so confused!!

I never heard of a dresser until I went to my first fitting. The look of concern on my dress designer’s face when I told her that I didn’t have one was priceless. I couldn’t believe that such a service existed. As a joke, I made a big deal about not having one and asked a good friend from high school, who I was not able to include in the bridal party, to be my “dresser.” Now I can tell my dress designer that I am flying one in from Canada.

Not really. My Aunt was able to get her dress on with the help of her bridesmaids…and I’m talking about 75 SMALL buttons down the back, and a VERY long cathedral train. Just takes practice. ;)
