Open Question: Wishbowl Poems

August 4th, 2006 @ 8:54 am by Mrs. Bee

Hello,

I am looking for some help in regards to a wishbowl poem for our guests. Also any advice from people who had a wishbowl at their wedding and how it was received.

Thanks Tom

Hi Tom here are a couple…

Please leave us a note,
please drop us a line,
add advice on marriage,
to stand the test of time

****

Instead of a guestbook stuck in a drawer,
Jen and Bill thought they would do more.
Please write them a note, a wish, or greeting.
On the plane to Spain, it will make for good reading!
Or if you prefer, some advice would be nice,
on how to stay married and keep the spice.

There’s also the standard:

Weddings are more than just dresses and rice,
So pick up a pen and write us some advice!

Or how about:

From each of your experiences comes a very special gift,
A piece of hidden knowledge that we didn’t know exists.
Please share with us your wisdom about marriage, love and life;
How to be a loving husband, or to be the perfect wife.
Please write your thoughts and wishes to share with us for life
For the greatest gift of all is the gift of your advice.

Make sure the poem/bowl/cards/pens are set up correctly. At my best friend’s wedding, the reception hall placed the items on the placecard table with the pens on the left side of the table and the bowl/cards on the right. Only a third of the guests filled out a card! Be sure that the poem is clearly visible to the guests. Put the poem in a frame with the cards/pens directly in front with an open area on the table to write on as well.

I would also have the mc/dj/ band leader make a little announcement about the wish bowl so people know it’s there. We had a polaroid camera at ours and people took pictures of themselves. It was a big hit and so much fun reading all the messages. Only thing was no one knew how to load the polaroid and it kept running out of film, so we should have designated someone as the official polaroid film loader.

We had a wish bowl at our Pakistani wedding ceremony. Some people wrote a message while the majority didn’t. Here is the poem that we used.

From each of your experiences,
Comes a very treasured gift,
A priceless piece of knowledge,
That we did not know exists.

Please share with us your wisdom,
About marriage, love, and life,
How to be a devoted, loving husband,
Or the perfect, caring wife.

Please write your thoughts and gestures,
To share with us for life,
For the greatest gift of all,
Is the gift of your advice.

For our American ceremony, we had a guest platter that “everyone” signed. It turned out great.
