About Mrs. Spider

My Mama Says…

August 5th, 2006 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Spider

I told my mom about Mr. Spider’s adverse reaction to gown no. 2. She was shocked. Normally, she is Mr. Spider’s number one advocate but even she had to say he’s straight up crazy. She reassured me by telling me that I looked “elegant and sophisticated” (awww shucks Ma~!) but asked me if that dress was now a no-go. Mom, I said, he might be crazy but I’m not. Hell ya I’m keeping the dress.

So yesterday Mr. Spider calls me from work and says “Wow, you’re getting a lot of hits on your blog.” Yeah, I said, people really hate you. He’s like “What are you talking about?” I’m like dude, read my entire post and the comments and call me back. Then I hung up. I wanted to reach through the phone and strangle him.

We met up after work to go home and he looks at me sheepishly and says he read the comments. He admits that he was nasty because he was in a bad mood. He had just come home from the heat, hungry and cranky and instead of seeing me cooking him dinner, I was sitting at the computer blogging. He said he looked at my pictures all day at the office and he thinks I looked amazing.

I told him two things:

1. Don’t ever intentionally hurt my feelings like that again; and
2. I cook dinner because I want to, not because I am obligated to do so as your (future) wife. My mom told me if he gets upset that there is no dinner on the table, then he’s gotta learn to cook himself. She said don’t ever let a man expect you to make dinner every night. So I told Mr. Spider, if I cook dinner, it should be celebrated not expected.

So Mr. Spider apologized and promised to kick the habit of expecting to see me with an apron on when he gets home.

I want to thank all the commentors for their generous compliments and for giving Mr. Spider a good kick in the head.

I’m glad that he came to his senses! Cuz you look great in that dress! :)

My fiance needs to learn how to cook as well…he can work the microwave like a champ, but he needs to learn that you shouldn’t cook a frozen pizza in one! UGH! lol.

Yeah! Glad to hear he came to his senses. And yes you set him straight in regards to expectations vs. appreciation Girl! But you gotta give him credits for admiting he should have reacted better about your dress, and also for apologizing for his false expectation when it comes to chores and his promising to improve. I find that very sweet! You got a keeper Ms Spider.

i think it’s sweet that he apologized, and yes, he should not expect you to be in a apron when he gets home, but don’t be so hard on him.

there’s no doubt he loves you… and although it’s no excuse, i myself know what the heat can do to my senses! :)
