Posting Galore

August 6th, 2006 @ 11:58 am by Mrs. Bee

We usually don’t post more than once or twice on the weekends (when you’re probably all off busily planning your weddings :P), but I think I’m still on a high from our record breaking 21 posts last Friday! Traffic is way up, comments are way up, we just added 4 new brides, and lately I really feel like a great sense of weddingbee community has developed.

You guys always say you’d like more, more and more posts, but I’m always wondering if it’ll ever be too much. So please let us know - what do you like about weddingbee and what would you like to see added or changed?

I love how there are posts on the weekends now! I was actually just telling Jeff how excited I am because now I have new posts to read 7 days a week!

I love the current format; it seems close to perfect.

That said, I’ve got just a couple of teensy little ideas to consider. Maybe it’s just me, but it gets a bit tedius scrolling alllll the way down a page to check and see if new comments have appeared on posts I’ve replied to or especially like. Would it be possible to create a “my favorites” button or something?

Another idea to allow more posts/page or make each page shorter would be for the posts that have a ton of pictures to be truncated at some point, so you could have the option of clicking to see the entire post with all its pictures, or if you’re scrolling down looking for one in particular, or for whatever reason don’t want to see all of the pictures on a certain post, you can just skip scrolling past alllllll the pics in one entry.

Just my 2c, but again–I really think you gals (and guys!) are doing a fantastic job :).

katie, if you mouse over the “blog” tab at the top of this page, it shows titles of all the posts on the main page and how many comments each has. that’s the easiest way to see whether or not a specific post has any new comments.

as for truncated posts, it’s something that i’ve debated since the beginning. to be honest… as someone who reads hundreds of blogs each day… i personally don’t like them because it’s a hassle to click over when you’re skimming thru over 1000 posts a day - then again i’m probably not your average user. and a site like weddingbee would have me coming back whether or not it had truncated posts. :)

i’ve talked to a lot of people about it and some agree and some disagree. but as the number of daily posts increases, this is definitely an option we need to explore. i’d really like more feedback on that point actually - how would you feel about truncated posts (the top portion of a post shows then you click on a link to see the rest) so we could feature more posts on the main page?

i think a truncated post would be good now that we have so many posts in one day, it would be easier to just scroll down faster - but you risk having some posts overlooked. Also, some avid fans will probably read every post, so it would be a bit annoying to have to click on every post for the entire version.

so actually, now i’m on the fence with this one. hehe.

Thanks for pointing that out to me, Mrs. Bee–I’ll check the comments that way from now on :).

Would it be possible to maybe truncate the posts beyond, say, (and I’m pulling this number out of my butt) the 5 most recent? Since so many of us check the site constantly (I know I can’t be the only one who does that!) we could still see the new posts in full yet have the option of expanding the older ones if we want to.

here’s a suggestion… maybe you can do the pages by days. so all the posts of one day are on the first page and then yesterday’s posts would be on the previous page… and so on. that way, we know exactly what posts are new and which ones are from the day earlier. it even makes it easier when you missed a day or if you are searching for a certain post, you can just go back in pages to find that day and that post.

i dont know, it sounds easier to me than scrowling through days worth of posts.

i’m a little indifferent about the celeb. wedding announcements. honestly, i come to weddingbee for ideas & inspiration and not for celebrity gossip. we are so bombarded by us weekly, e news, etc. that weddingbee doesn’t really have to re-report when it comes to this subject matter. on the otherhand, since celebrities have the $$ to pay for their dream weddings- i do like getting ideas from their fancy affairs (think: in style celeb. weddings).

and i’m sure i speak on behalf of many of your loyal fans, but you really shold branch out to other cities!!! ; )

I love everything about Weddingbee. And no I’m not just saying that :-)! Yes I’d like to see more posts on weekends too. (But I understand that/if there isn’t since you guys deserve a break too when you worked so hard during the week). In regards to the truncated, posts I’m really indifferent either way. Well..what I’m really saying is that the current, “untruncated” version works just fine for me, since I’m one of those avid readers who read every post anyway. But I’m open to trying something new. Oh, and in terms of what feature I would like to see added to Weddingbee…I think this idea has been brought up before… how about a “My Favorite” or “My Archive/Scrapbook” where I can save all the posts that I like for my future, convenient reference. I’ve just been emailing those to myself. But I’d love to have a my storage thingy on Weddingbee.

I don’t think there’ll ever be TOO MANY posts! I love checking it…maybe religiously…every day at work. And it’s nice to have something to read on the weekends too, when I’m stuck at the office and bored.

I love the format, and since I read every post, I like being able to see all the pictures at once…so I say keep it as it is! :)

This site is so GREAT for inspiration!! I had never even really THOUGHT about painting an aisle runner until I saw a couple of entries in the DIY Contest, and now it’s something I’m definately doing. My wedding isn’t for a couple more years, so I love getting all these ideas…ahead of time! :)

Love the site so much, ladies.
But I agree…branch out! I’m about 90 mins from Chicago, so it’d be neat to have a weddingbee Chicago, even though I’m not having my wedding IN Chicago or anything (I’m in Michigan)…but that doesn’t keep me from reading this site more than any others…heh.

I’m rambling now, so I’ll shut up. :)

i’m not a fan as far as truncated posts is concerned. i find the act tedious, and i’d actually skip the posts all together, and just browsed thru the main page instead.

i like weddingbee as it is, cos i love the thrill of anticipation, i.e. keep scrolling down for more gems like pictures & it keep me on my tingly & ticklish toes. :)

now, what i would like to see more on the site are “DIY projects” and “gown features” - it could be wedding, cultural, BMs, even just evening gowns. Cos i’ve been very inspired with all the gowns the brides featured here at one point or another, i’ve been collecting ideas to tailor make all of them! :D

all that aside, here’s a giant kudos to u guys at weddingbee, keep up the wonderful work here!

for me it’s never enough. i’m not even getting married anytime soon, but i check your site so many times in one day. i even get bumped when there’s not that many post on the weekend, so keep them coming.

Love the site so much! I’m also a multiple-times-a-day checker!

My only (minor) complaint is that when you leave a comment or click on a post that is NOT the most recent, after you submit it it bounces back to the top of the main weddingbee page, so you can’t see if anyone else posted a new comment while you were writing, or glance back at that page for any reason until scrolling wayyy back down to that post.

Also, it might be nice to have a “next” or “previous” button on each individual post page so you can go from one to the next reading comments on ALL posts sans scrolling!

Whoops, just realized I didn’t get bumped back to the main page when I submitted that! Not sure what exactly I was thinking of, but I know I’ve had that sort of experience in some way or another before?

Okay, not to overcomment but I just realized what the thing I was originally talking about was! When you vote in a poll, it pops you back up to the top of the page and then you have to scroll way down again to see what the results are! Okay I’m done with commenting now! (Oh and to address the original point of this post - I LOOOOOVE weekend postings!!!!)

weekend postings are great but you should take a break sometimes mrs. bee. you deserve it for all ur hard work throughout the week! as for truncated posts..they’re ehhh. its nice to see how long a blog is or to just scan thru the paragraphs or look at pics quickly. also, like leisha said..”i love the thrill of anticipation!”

Yes! Loove this site! I love following the various “stories” of how everyone’s coming along with their wedding decisions, and I love the opportunity to find new vendors and creative ideas. I agree with the previously suggested changes– changing how viewing the votes flips you back to the top of the page (annoying), and I don’t really read the celeb round-up unless I think it will have actual ideas for me (like Instyle wedding-type posts). I, too, would love to be able to save ideas in some sort of space on this page. (But that might not be possible!) Other than that, keep up the incredible work! This site rocks.

Also, that DIY contest rocked the hizzouse! It might be fun to have a contest where we all looked at various knottie bios and voted for “Best of” awards…

I think it would be a great idea to do an L.A. weddingbee (heehee, I’ve made this uber known!!)! Anyway, I adore weddingbee and am also a very fanatical reader, I wish we coud see more DIY, and maybe how they did it, in more of an educational way, ya know? I learn so much about that, and I’d love to really hear more about how it was done. I love the way you post things, favors, dresses, invites, and all that, and I think it would be great if you could help us find a cost-efficient version of it, if it’s expensive, or have others give their advice on finding the cost-efficient version! All in all, a very happy weddingbee goer in L.A.!

Oooh good idea with the more DIY, Amber! I plan on posting instructions for all my DIY projects on my Xanga, and I know several other of us Xangans do the same thing and it’s been immensely helpful–I’d love to see the Weddingbees’ take on it!!! Wouldn’t necessarily have to be projects they’ve done themselves, but just others that we might all find helpful. :)

i like chelle’s idea of putting all of each day’s post on seperate pages… perezhilton does this (ok admitting my dirty secret reading obsession) and i think it works really well. i read a lot of blogs also, and i HATE truncated entries. for a blog like weddingbee, i think that pretty much everyone that comes reads every entry, in which case we’d all be making several hundred extra clicks a week. bleh to that!

second the comment laura made (i think, too lazy to scroll up again) about polls and viewing the results. it would be great if when you clikc on ‘view results’ it would jump you straight to that part of the page, instead of having to scroll back down to the poll entry.

and, this may be a lot of work but… it would be nice to have a directory of featured sites. like an index of all the photogs, stores, etc that you’ve featured, maybe a thumbnail of the images featured in the post, and a link going back ot hte main entry. especially as the database of information contained in weddingbee grows, it would be nice to have that directory for brides just starting their research.

just my two cents. great job bee! this site has grown so much since xanga.com/weddingbee =)

If you have loved ones or friends that have survived breast cancer, it’s time for celebration. Your friend or loved one has been through a very stressful time and lots of procedures. And no matter which procedure they had, they must be emotionally and physically drained.

It’s time to let them know you are celebrating with them and will do whatever it takes to make them feel whole again.

One of the best gifts you can offer is the gift of yourself: be there for then when they are happy and energetic, as well as when they feel tired and lonely.

Here are a few ideas for those times full of optimism and stamina:

- go together for a shopping trip, and buy a little something that will make your friend feel beautiful
- have a cup of coffee together at a coffee shop, away from home
- take walk in the park to enjoy nature again: a cool breeze of fresh air, the nice colors of fall, and even the kids playing on the swing sets

teen bare breast
For those days when your friend is tired and doesn’t feel like doing much, give her one of the following gifts:

- a nice book to read
- a music CD/DVD
- a journal, so she can jot down her feelings
- a spa gift certificate: getting a massage not only feels good, but it helps the mind and body to concentrate on healing and reduces stress. If you can, give her the gift of a monthly massage that will rejuvenate her month after month.

And don’t forget to give yourself a gift too: the gift of health. Make sure you take care of your own body, by living a healthy life, resting and eating nourishing food. And get a mammogram this year: be pro-active!

Don’t forget to remind all your friends about the importance of monthly breast self-exams.
