I’ll Fly Away

August 7th, 2006 @ 5:03 pm by Mrs. Caterpillar

So, four months after I started the madness that has become the Cones project, I am nearing the end. Today I stopped my dithering and decided on freeze-dried over fresh petals. I ordered 80 cups of this:

Flyboy Naturals’ Spring Fling Special Blend. I was going to do the extra large blue hydrangea petals, but, the peach rose petals won me over in the end.

Also, get 10% before April 1, 2007 with the code FB2B1Wed10off (which I found at 2become1weddings.com).

lovely….

i wish my church allowed for tossing… but they’re clean-freaky like that.
and… that’s probably why i picked that church anyway…

Daisy028 –

I went with the freeze dried for practical reasons, in particular, they pose no freshness issues. I can fill the cones way beforehand, and let them sit in the sun without worrying about them wilting. As well, they won’t stain anyone’s dress.

I suppose the downside is that they will feel like dried petals. But, texture isn’t a great concern for me :)

the cathedral we are getting married in doesn’t allow a petal toss either, so we are doing it when we leave the reception. they won’t mind ;)

We used freeze-dried rose petals (from http://www.petalgarden.com, though I’d looked at flyboynaturals as well) — they were for our centerpieces, and honestly, the feeling isn’t that far off from fresh petals. If you bring the petals into the bathroom with you when you shower, a day or two before your wedding, the steam will “reactivate” them a little bit, which helps make them feel more like fresh petals. And they smell so good! :) Good luck with your cone project!

I’ve really taken an interest in the freeze-dried petals, mostly because [a] I’m on a tight budget and [b] I can buy them and assemble our cones ahead of time.

My only problem with Flyboy’s is that most of the site seems to be “sold out as of xxxx.” This includes the green hydrangeas that I had my heart set on.

Oh well. There are other places to get them.
