In today’s beehive:

  • Ariel wants to know what common pre-wedding jitters are.
  • Nhi wants to know the difference in price between engraved, letterpress, and thermography invitations; and whether or not it’s more economical to have your envelopes letterpressed or calligraphered.
  • christina’s fiance is set on her having black, straight, shoulder length hair for the wedding… do you think that means forgoing her dreams of a delicate lace dress?
  • B.A.L. has had tons of last minute bridal shower cancellations due to various obligations - including some of the hosts! Should she proceed or reschedule, and how would she go about rescheduling?

See the most recent beehive here. To add your question to the beehive, leave a comment and we’ll update this post to include your question.

My FI is begging me to keep my hair straight and shoulder length for our wedding. But he said he didn’t care what kind of dress I got. So now I don’t know what type of dress would go with straight (boring) black hair. Does this mean I have to forgo my dreams of a delicate lace dress?

that’s an odd request.. he only cares about your hair and not your gown? Anyway, what makes you think you can’t wear a delicate lace dress? Maybe you can add a barrette to your hair so it won’t look so flat and boring?

That is a strange request…he doesn’t want it pulled back in a half-updo? Like have it long in the back, and have it pulled back into a barette, like Miss Violet suggested?

B.A.L.

There are SO many people that cannot come to my shower, including some of the hosts because of family events that came up last minute (kids that live really really far away are going to be in town unexpectedly).

Is there any etiquette - or any just plain suggestions from all of the bees and readers - on how to go about changing a shower date? Or do we just keep it as-is and have a much smaller group?

Many thanks - B.

envelopes letterpressed or calligraphered?

to save on cost we just printed the addresses on sticker labels :)

it may not be the most elegant… but saving a lil’ here & there definitely helps :)

Nhi, engraving will definitely be the most expensive, followed by letterpress and thermography. But invitation costs vary so much it’s hard to give you a range. same for the envelopes question.

do you have a budget you’re working with?

Ariel - what type of pre wedding jitters are you having? Nightmares are normal, but are you having cold feet as well? About him or about the wedding in general?

Christina; I don’t see why having long, straight, hair would make a difference for your dress; I think anything would look lovely. You could go for a very “fashion-shoot” look by making sure the ends of your hair all line up crisply, or you could put some layers in for body. You could also go with a sideswept bang to soften it up, and if you put jeweled clips or flowers in your hair, I guarantee it will not look boring! I think whatever you do will be lovely and elegant. :)

Mrs. Bee… I’m not even sure if they’re wedding jitters… We’re moving away right after the wedding, so it might be that.

I’m having mood swings… i go from depressed to cheerful really fast. And strong feelings of loneliness…. being cranky… etc.

Bad dreams happen too but I just laugh because I know that is common. But are the other things common as well?

Thanks guys! I know, it’s a strange request. But apparently it makes him go “gaga” when he seems me with my hair down- pin straight and long. I love your ideas- I’ll play around with my hair when I try on some dresses soon.

Thanks again!

Mrs. Bee - I’d hope to stay under 2K for 300-350 invites for all the various components. If you have any recommendations, I’d appreciate it!

I’m embossing our envelopes with our return address. I expect to have carpal tunnel syndrome by the end of it, but I can’t spend more money on these things! Let’s hope that I can make some of them look straight.

I just saw this on one of the blogs I read… the bride had a stamp of her name/address made for the rsvp envelopes. under $20 and she used gold ink… looked very nice!

Ariel, i had mood swings too! it’s all a result of wedding planning stress. there were times i got annoyed because i felt like i was doing all the planning… i went from excited to avoiding planning like the plague and it varied from month to month. it’s all normal.

I get excited about every little detail for a while and then don’t want to touch anything related to wedding planning with a ten foot pole a little while later. At this moment, I’m heading towards a planning low.

This usually happens when I start to think about the mounting expenses and parental expectations.

new question for the hive: has anyone ordered the letterpress invitations available from costco? they are a fraction of the price, but have fewer personalization options. i would love to know if the quality was as good as a boutique.

Trinity

hey everyone. i’ve been engaged for a few months now and i haven’t started planning for the wedding yet. now that our engagement party is done with, i’m beginning the wedding planning process.

i want to plan this wedding myself. of course i have fantastic friends and an awesome wedding party that are helping me. i don’t really want a wedding planner, but at the same time, i dont want to be running around on the day of my wedding. i’m looking for a professional that will be in charge on the day of the wedding. so is there such a person? like a wedding coordinator for the day?

thanks in advance

hi trinity,

many planners offer just day of coordination, and speaking from personal experience, they’re well worth every penny for the peace of mind you’ll have. when researching coordinators, ask them for several references and talk to past brides they’ve worked with. brides are usually more than happy ro share their experiences. good luck!
