Mr. Chocolate

August 8th, 2006 @ 2:28 pm by Mrs. Grasshopper

I have lived in Brooklyn for over five years now and only just made it to the Jacques Torres chocolate shop in Dumbo this past weekend, while sampling the delicious favor options Brooklyn has to offer. We bought a few a la carte chocolates to see what the deal was all about and I have to say, this chocolate deserves all the press it gets.

They have two boxed favor options: 2 pieces for $4.75 and 4 pieces for $7. Or go a la carte and package the chocolate up the way you want it to look. Added bonus: brides outside of the New York area can order their favors online.

I have a friend who raves about Jaques Torres and his cookies! Makes my Diddy Reise over here look like crap. :)

OOOOOOOH the Manhattan store is right up the block from my work and those SERIOUSLY ARE THE BEST COOKIES EVER!!!!! Get a mudslide (chocolate-chocolate chip) and make sure you eat it WARM (pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds if it’s not) and I swear you will DIE FROM JOY!!!!!

[Whoa I need to calm down. But I'm serious! I always hype them up to people and then they try them and they agree it's the best cookie ever!!!]

They don’t appear to sell the cookies on the website but if you’re in the NYC area I’m sure you could place a big order, bag them and they’d be THE MOST DELICIOUS FAVORS EVER! :-)

With all due respect, Kanipark, from experience I think Jacques Torres chocolates are much better than Choxie!

Jacques Torres is the head pastry teacher of New York’s French Culinary institute and is also famous for his Dessert Circus program that used to be on TV… He’s a genius.

I think that Kanipark was just saying that they LOOK similar, as the Choxie chocolates are decorated in that same format (or at least in the same way as the ones pictured.) I don’t have experience with either, so I wouldn’t be able to tell ya about taste.

Yes, I understood that she was referring to the look for the chocolate–I was just adding my two cents about the taste. Didn’t mean to sound rude!

I also visited Jacques Torres’ shop in DUMBO, and believe the hype - it is THAT GOOD! I had one of the chocolate drinks, which definitely rivaled the Iced Chocolate I LOVE from MarieBelle (also a great place to find quality chocolates and favors).
