About Mrs. Bee

Candice Solomon Couture

August 9th, 2006 @ 3:00 pm by Mrs. Bee

Candice Solomon invited me to her Noho shop yesterday. She’s a fan of weddingbee, and has been following it since she googled herself and landed on the site.

Her shop is very elegant and romantic - a dollhouse was the inspiration for the design. This big pink awning has been her signature for the past 20 plus years she’s been designing in Manhattan. Over the years she’s accumulated many accolades including being voted “best bridal designer” by New York Magazine two years in a row.

When she had the champagne colored fantasy gown below from her 2007 collection displayed in her store window, passerbys would stop in their tracks and gasp. Candice could even hear the sound of cars breaking when people driving by were trying to get a better look at the dress!

What Candice really wanted to share is, though her custom couture gowns start at $6000, her designs are by no means inaccessible. For instance her entire 2006 collection is currently 75% off. And if you purchase one of her 2007 sample dresses (sizes 4,6,8) off the rack, you’ll get 25-50% off.

I absolutely loved this luxurious silk crepe dress. The price tag? Well under $1000! I can see myself renewing my vows in this dress at a cool Manhattan loft. She also has the cleanest samples I’ve ever seen. ;)

All gowns are created by hand on-site, and you can really see the craftsmanship that goes into each one.

While I was there, I was fortunate enough to see the final fitting for a bride who is getting married in upstate New York next week. This beautiful lace covered dress was purchased from Candice’ 2007 collection.

What I really liked about Candice is that she works with every bride one on one and does all the fittings herself. You always get the personal attention of the designer. Most of all, I really liked Candice. She really does treat her brides like they’re one of a kind. :)

gorgeous! $6000 is a lot, but not that much more than the standard dresses at Kleinfeld, Saks, Mark Ingram, etc. Plus, since its couture, you wouldn’t have alteration expenses ($485 for a hem and bustle)

Candice made my wedding dress for my wedding last January! It truly was the most breathtaking dress…and the way she fitted it to my body made my waist look tiny! I was so happy with my dress and the overall experience! What a perfectionist!
I heard her store closed and when I called the store the phone number has been disconnected! I wonder if she closed or relocated! I know that when I purchased my dress from her last year it was in her place on 20th street and my last fitting was in her shop on Lafayette…It just doesn’t make sense that she closed w/ no forwarding info! It would truly be a shame if she wasn’t making dresses anymore

Candice closed her shop because she decided to retire and wanted to travel and find her true love. =o) The reason why she has no forwarding contact information is because she’s currently traveling all over the world!

help! i bought my dress from Candace when she closed her shop in october. she had provided her seamstress’s name (lucy) and number for my alterations. i’ve been trying to reach lucy and there’s simply no answer, only computerized voice mail answering the phone. does anyone out there know who “lucy the seamstress” is and how i might contact her? this is becoming stressful…

Oh my goodness! I had no idea that Candice went out of business!?!?!?! Everyone is STILL talking about how beautiful I looked in my wedding dress and I got married almost 4 years ago. It is truly is a shame that Candice is no longer designing wedding dresses. :-(

Candice really made me feel like a bride and I felt like I was walking into a fairy tale on the day of my wedding. I was so against wearing a ball gown until I stepped in candice’s shop last October and bought one of her amazing samples. People were gasping at the dress when I wore it on my wedding day and I am mourning over not being able to wear it again. I truly hope she finds respite and joy in traveling and can feel assured that her amazing artistic ability and her blood sweat and tears that she put into each and every gown has added so much joy to so many brides and grooms out there! Thank you thank you thank you candice!

I was friends with Candace back when we were teenagers in Miami. Even then she already had an amazing flair for fashion and I am not surprised to read about her success. Her mom had a beautiful shop in Coconut Grove where she designed dresses and sold beautiful vintage gowns too. Candace’s brother was also extremely talented in drama. I lost touch with them and I would love to write to Candace, or Candy as we called her back then, if anyone knows where I can write to her I would greatly appreciate it.
