Open Question: Colored Shoes

August 9th, 2006 @ 11:15 am by Mrs. Bee

Hi Weddingbees!!!

I’m in the process of looking for wedding shoes and am having a hard time. I’m 5′ 3″-ish and my fiance is 6′ and so I need at least a 3 inch heel. I haven’t found any unique/elegant white/ivory shoes and when I saw on the knottie bio of the week where someone had RED shoes, a light bulb went on and I thought… why not BLUE shoes?!? My color theme is blue and it could be my “something blue”.

I’m curious if any other brides or brides-to-be have worn or thought about colored shoes. I ended up ordering blue shoes and 2 pairs of white shoes just in case. I’m also curious about padding/insoles for high heels. What works, what doesn’t… I really liked the “cleaning in sweat socks” idea. :) Mrs. Bee posted about the insolia inserts awhile back but haven’t heard an update, so I was wondering if those really worked like advertised.

Thanks for your time and all the insight and advice and the humor… need I go on? :)

Debbie

P.S. Here’s a shot of what I ordered from Zappos.com -another great tip from you guys - Anne Klein “Lola” 3.25in

I love the blue shoe idea but don’t know if I have the guts to branch out. If you do, though, go for it! I’m sure it’ll be fantastic!

I use the FootPetals insoles in my high-heeled shoes. They work well to keep my heels from hurting too much. I buy them at Nordstrom, but I ‘m sure they sell them at other places too. If your shoes are already snug, they might not fit properly with the insoles, so just be wary of that.

Debbie - I bought the insolias but I haven’t used them yet. it’s flip flop season! =) Those shoes are adorable… makes me wish I went the nontraditional route with my shoes too!

I’m having blue shoes also. Nordstroms- ‘Ribbon in the Sky’ by Seychelles in turquoise. Or BCBGirls ‘Dolina’ in turquoise, I haven’t been able to make up my mind yet!!!!

Here are some products to make shoes more comfortable. I wish I could tell you if they worked, but I wear low heels so I’ve never tried these out

i second foot petals! i use the tip toes.

i’ve NEVER been able to wear insoles because while comforting one part they’d make another area hurt! not with tip toes! there’s just enough cushion. and it’s not too much to where your the top of your foot is pressed and thus hurting from the pressure. i highly recommend them!

as far as colored shoes- i bought one white pair. i’ve had one heck of a time finding closed-toe with the strap around the ankle in a over 3″ heel! i will also have a backup pair. i think those will be a deep red. i’ve had those pair for a while and love them and they match my flowers.

Thanks gals!!!! I just got them in the mail yesterday and so far they seem pretty comfortable… though I may get the footpetals as insurance. I told my mom and she kinda freaked but she hasn’t seen them yet. The white shoes are coming today, so I’ll compare and decide. But I may just keep them regardless :) Will keep you updated!

I love Insolias - they really do shift the weight back so that I can wear 3″ heels and not have lower back pain at the end of the day. BUT - there’s still weight on the ball of your foot, so if you’re not used to wearing heels, and you are on your feet all day, the balls of your feet will still be sore. I think the best combo would be insolias + some shock absorption up front in the ball of the foot. Of course, the padding would have to be not *too* thick such that your toes get pinched. I am definitely planning on wearing heels more before my wedding, so that my body gets used to it.

i like your blue shoes. that is a great idea, plus a way to add some color to your dress. and it’s always fun to find an unconventional way to uphold traditions.

Did you see Bobby Flay’s wedding? His bride wore Manolo’s that were dyed the most beautiful shade of blue. I am in love with her entire wedding ensemble, but her shoes took the cake :-) I also like Cynthia Rowely shoes, which have blue soles.
