Getting Dressed

August 10th, 2006 @ 10:49 am by Mrs. Firefly

Midtown, New York City.

All photos are by Leah McCormick and as I’ve mentioned before, Leah shot in film. The digital images I’m posting here really don’t do the real photos justice. If you haven’t guessed already, I think Leah is absolutely fantastic, but I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. A++.

Make-up by Laura Nadeau What can I say, I don’t think I’ve ever looked better in my life. Laura is amazing. She’s hilarious, sweet, and obviously immensely talented. A++

Hair by Stacy Pitt from Styles on B. Stacy is a sweetheart and has such a calming presence. I loved how my hair came out and her prices are (ridiculously) low. She was originally booked for my wedding day. I can’t tell you thrilled I was that she freed up! A++

Dress: Monique Lhuillier from Mark Ingram Bridal Atelier: A-. I loved heart2.gif my dress and everyone at Mark Ingram, but honestly, there was at least a 20-30 minute wait (and at times much longer!) for each and every one of my appointments.

ML’s dresses are sold at three stores in the city: Mark Ingram, Kleinfeld, and Saks. I picked Mark Ingram based on the location (it’s 3 blocks from my office), but the long waits somewhat negated that convenience (I don’t know if other bridal salons are similar, in that case, please ignore this comment). Also, I think that $485 is too much to charge for not so extensive alterations, although I know that Kleinfeld charges similarly high prices (and I’m sure that Saks does as well).

How come the bridal salon review didn’t make it here? I think it was an honest review. What happened?

You are stunningly gorgeous! I can’t get over it! And you look much better in your dress than Barbie does (see http://manolobrides.com/2006/08/09/barbie-brides/)!

Miss Ant — I think Bee uploaded the photos before I put in that review (I was going to do it in a later post, but decided this was a good spot for it). I emailed it to her a few minutes ago…

Oh, have i told you exactly how much I love the eye makeup? I’ve already contacted your makeup artist about it. I am totally tracking her down at the counter. Like a predator. =oP

Hello. I had posted this question on another thread, but a little late — so I thought I’d reask it here

“I have a question about the film to CD conversion - you stated that if you download from shutterfly you’ll not get the best quality. How can you optimize the quality of your photos without specifically relying on the negatives - can you use the CDs to print?”

and I agree with everyone else — your eye makeup is smashing!

is it useful to do a film to CD conversion - you said that downloading from shutterfly will decreas the picture quality. So can you use the CDs to print or are you going to use the negatives?

and I agree with everyone else — your eye makeup is smashing!

Mrs. Firefly, has anyone ever told you that you look like Rachel Weisz, the actress?

Hi Lulu,

I’m going to use the negatives to print most of the pictures. I think there is definately a loss of quality when you transfer negatives to a CD and, for example, my B&W photos look a bit washed out on the CD and are much sharper/brighter in real life.

Its different with pics that are originally digital. For example — digital images of Leah’s film shots are around 1-1.5 megs each on my CD, while Edgar’s original digital images are 3-4 megs each. 1 meg is still a great image and Leah told me that I can order prints of upto 5×7 from those images ( shutterly says that I can order upto 11 x20 enlargements from the images), but for important photos that I want framed, etc., I’m going to order re-prints and enlargements from the negatives.

If I need some cheap-o prints, for example, to include with my thank you cards or to send to friends, I’m going to order them from shutterfly because frankly, you can’t beat the price (12 - 19 cents per 4×6 print).

My reference to shutterfly in the earlier post was a bit different — if you load a 1 mega bite print onto shutterfly and then right click on the image to resave it on your harddrive, the re-saved image will be well below 1 meg. That’s why I would rather post the pics directly from my harddrive.

Hope that helps!

Completely digging the Rachel Weisz vibes, and also love the divergence from the strapless style that seems to be so ubiquitous. Gorgeous sexy makeup without being too pale or too dark. I’m keeping photos of you to show to my artists!!

Mrs. Firefly,

I noticed you wore Jimmy Choos on your wedding day. Just curious if they were as comfortable as everyone says JCs are…

Mary,

I’ve always been more of a Jimmy Choo fan than a Manolo fan. I love em and think they’re super comfy for heals. These heals, btw, were 85 mm or around 3 1/4 inches.

Unfortunately, my heal got caught between the planks when we were taking pictures at South Street Seaport and one of the heal tips was lost! (and then the shoes got all dusty on paths in Battery Park). I was dealing with slightly broken Jimmy Choos for much of the reception and still managed to keep them on until after the garter toss at 10:30 or so! (at which point i finally gave up and put on flip flops).
