Getting There

August 10th, 2006 @ 3:45 pm by Mrs. Firefly

Checker Cab: Film Cars. The 1945 checker cab was perfect (and much roomier than today’s Ford Crown Vics ;)). Peter, the owner of Film Cars, is probably the nicest person in the world. A++

Something borrowed: There is no review for the veil because it’s not my veil. It was my sister’s veil which she bought for her wedding 6 years ago (to the day!). It was exactly the style I wanted (drop veil). The only issue was that it was diamond white instead of ivory, but the wonderful ladies at Mark Ingram assured me that you wouldn’t be able to tell in real life or photos because the tulle was so thin and really just picked up the color of whatever was beneath it.

My sister purchased the veil at Michelle Roth on 57th Street, where she got her dress as well. At that time, the store sold various brands of dresses, although I think they now only sell the Michelle and Henry Roth brands. The veil was very expensive (around $900-$1000 I think) which I think is absolutely insane. It has hand-rolled edging with hand sewn beading… yada yada yada. It was beautiful and I’m so thankful to have worn it, but I would never have spent that much money on a few yards of tulle!

Meanwhile, at the Ritz Carlton Battery Park City (A+)…. we booked a regular room at the Ritz for our wedding night. Had I known that they would upgrade us to a suite (complete with 1 1/2 baths!), I would have gotten ready at the hotel and let Michael get ready in our cramped apartment! We hope to stay at the Ritz for our first anniversary next year.

Photos of Michael are by Leah’s amazing assistant Edgar who shot with a digital camera.

How far in advance did you need to book the checkered cab?

Does anyone know how much those cabs charge to rent?

I booked Film Cars around 4 months in advance. The groom is generally responsible for taking care of the transportation, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a lot of last minute bookings;-)

Film Cars is based in brooklyn and they primarly rent out cars for movies (hence the name). They have 3 or 4 different cabs (one of them is green). There are pictures of all of their cabs (and other cars) on their website: http://www.filmcars.com Although they have more than one car, I’m not sure if they have multiple drivers (Peter the owner was ours).

The price was quite reasonable — $400 for 4 hours.
