Sleepover/Bonding

August 10th, 2006 @ 9:34 am by Mrs. Poppy

There’s nothing better than having your girlfriends over for a wedding movie marathon. When I have all my girls in one area code, I like to have sleepovers!

Last year I had a huge sleepover: “Girls night IN.” I made Korean Sushi (kimbap), carrot cake muffins, chocolate dipped strawberries (yes I did it myself!) and I had each girl bring something (chips, drinks, wine, dvds). One of them even brought over a truth or dare game. I had knitting/crocheting books (the girls are all into it so they brought their own projects as well), and a variety of facials from Missha ready.

Most of the girls aren’t close as a whole but close with one or two people in the group. This gave us bonding time and we ended up talking all night long - not only did we have a great time, but none of us slept! We are all early nighters so it’s a big deal that we didn’t sleep. The morning after I made everyone apple french toast, and then we knitted some more while gossiping… I mean, talking! After all the girls left I couldn’t help but to smile.

I want to do this sort of thing for my bachelorette party when my bridesmaids are in New York before the wedding - a huge sleepover where my girls can get to know each other and maybe watch some of my favorite wedding movies like My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Wedding Planner, The Wedding Singer (”Do you really want to hurt me??”), The Father of the Bride, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and of course: Saved by the Bell - Las Vegas Wedding! (I always knew Zach and Kelly were going to get married!)

What are some of your favourite “wedding” movies? And do you think I’m too old to have a sleepover as my bachelorette party?

Four Weddings and a Funeral, despite the fact that the main love interests agree to not marry, ha. And for whatever reason I love The Wedding Date, even though I am fully aware that it is formulaic, predictable, and fairly unbelievable.

*sigh* I haven’t had a sleepover with my girls in so long. Those were the good ol’ days! I remember one sleepover, we watched Anne of Green Gables and we all bawled our hearts out when Matthew died. haha, we’re such girls

It sounds like you and your friends really enjoy them, so you should go for it! Never too old for sleepovers.

Yep, the wedding date! And I’m a fan of Runaway Bride, despite the fact she’s a runaway bride… :)

Anne of Green Gables *sigh…* when she goes to Europe and *finds* him there. Ridiculous and brilliant…
I think the girlie night of fun and silliness is far more rewarding than dressing up as horny devils and making idiots of yourself in town centres. I want to have a weekend at a health spa, but if that exceeds the finances of my girls, then this may be the second best thing. A celebration of your friendship, not a race to who can be sick first. Definitely more cool and definitely more classy.

I LOVE Anne of Green Gables!!
My favorite wedding movie is Father of the Bride.
And I don’t think you are too old for a sleepover. After reading this post, I think maybe I’ll do that for my bachelorette party.

i haven’t seen anne of green gables!
i was also thinking that after your suggestions i would buy some dvds as part of their bridesmaids gifts in that huge purse i posted about…. :)

when i was a bridesmaid last time… i spent almost $500 just on the shower and bachelorette party! i don’t want my girls to do that, i just want to spend time with them… that’s why i thought the sleepover would be not only cost wise great but also more bonding time :)

we had a sleepover for one of my friends who was getting married. she’s especially shy so we all were evil friends and bought her plenty of “accessories” [edible panties, whipped cream and chocolate sauce...the works] and made her take pictures with them. great, great times.

oh my gosh…sleepovers are so much fun! you’re never too old…when i think about some of the most fun memories with my friends as a kid, it was while having a sleepover! the last one i went to was for the finale for “90210″…heehee…you should do it! sounds awesome! now i know this isn’t a “wedding” movie, but i still love it…”when harry met sally”…love it! and “anne of green gables” is one of my favorite movies…i always cry when anne and gilbert come together on the bridge…*tear roll down cheek*

I don’t know about my favorite WEDDING movie, but one of my favorite love stories is Ever After. I also love Moulin Rouge, even though it’s so SAD at the end…-sigh-

As for having a sleepover for your bachelorette party, that’s the type of thing I’d like to have. My fiance & I have a no stripper policy, and that’s just not something that I’ve ever WANTED. So I just wanna maybe go out for a couple of drinks, and then come back and watch movies, and just have BONDING time with my girls. :)

SAVED BY THE BELL!!! Oh, I was ecstatic when they made that movie… soooo good. :)

For my bachelorette party I’m hoping to do something similar… I actually hadn’t thought of a sleepover, but was thinking of getting dinner or something (fiance’s sister will only be 16 at that time so 21-and-over places are a no go unless she doesn’t come… but I want her there!) and then heading back to someone’s house for spa stuff and a gab session… great bonding time! I LOVE the sleepover idea, though… bonding all night long! Excellent idea!! :)
