believe it or not, i used elmer’s rubber cement for all my invitations - i had several layers i had to glue together. it worked perfectly b/c the paper didn’t pucker like it does with some craft glues. i was debating whether i should use the double sided tape or scrapbooking adhesive strips, but they are just so dang expensive… i had to make 150 invitations and paid just $1.50 for 3 bottles of rubber cement. it was a little messy and i got a little high off the smell, but my fiancee and i had fun… it brought us back to grade school all over again.

Ooh, I never considered rubber cement…. That would have been more economical than the 5 adhesive dispensers that I bought for the over 200 invites that I made. If going with the adhesive dispenser though, I’d recommend the Scotch one over the Tombow as it flows a little better. I also used Glue Dots to attach a ribbon around the invite and a seal to the front. Again, I think rubber cement would have been more economical in that instance.

I think it all depends on what you are doing with the adhesive. I wouldn’t use a liquid glue on paper as it tends to bubble. These are some of my favorite adhesives all available at your local craft stores or Target & Walmart. Even Office Depot and Office Max carry a good selection.

Herma® Dotto Permanent Adhesive
UHU Glue Stick
Glue Dots - GREAT for closing envelopes
Duck Brand Permanent Adhesive - Real cheap at Wal-mart
Tombow® Mono® Adhesive

I used Zots made by Therm O Web. They worked really well for me. They have different types, I used the Medium Memory, 3/8″ diameter, paper thin style. They are also acid free, so if you were to put one of your invitations in a frame or something, there shouldn’t be any discoloration over time from the adhesive.

I used glue dots for my save the dates, and double sided tape for my brother’s invitations. that’s what the invitation company we ordered them from recommended.

Okay, I’ve got a question! My fiance is not a very sociable guy, and he only knows really one or two people that he’d want to stand up there for him as a Best Man and Groomsman. I, on the other hand am going to have my Maid of Honor, 3 bridesmaids, and a Junior bridesmaid. Would it look horrible if I had all these ladies on my side, and he didn’t have an even number? And I’ve thought about maybe just having a couple of my older guy cousins be his groomsman, but he doesn’t even really know them, so would it be just better to have the two guys up there, rather than have an even number, but two of them not really “mean” anything to him? Am I making any sense? LOL

3M spray adhesive works well for thinner papers (even vellum!) b/c of the even coverage - no wrinkles/puckering.

K - yes it’s ok! I’ve seen it done, and it looks perfectly fine. You should have the people that are most important to you up there with you.

Does anyone have any experience with or advice about using a band for a wedding that is not actually a “wedding band”? My fiance loves the idea of finding a “real band” and thinks that this will make our wedding different and more us. I like the idea - I love good music (and love that he is so interested in planning and making our wedding “us”) but am a little nervous about this. I want our wedding to be beautiful and wedding-y and what I’ve dreamed of. This has been making me very anxious, so if anyone has any thoughts or advice, please let me know!

Does anyone have any comments/advice on using long rectangular banquet type tables vs. regular round ones? Space is going to be a bit tight at our reception venue and I’m thinking that a few long skinny tables would take up less space per person than the round ones that seat 10. I also think it is easier to talk to people at the rectangular tables too, but biggest concern is for space.

Does anyone have sites or books they can recommend to help me write a good toast? I am the maid of honor in an upcoming wedding, and I’m nervous about the toast - I want it to be just right!

K - I’ve seen tons of weddings where the sides were uneven, and it never looked weird at all. Go for it!

jlb07 - most of the bands that play at weddings aren’t (in my experience) “wedding bands”, they are just bands that play at weddings, just like any other gig. So I wouldn’t worry about it at all. Find a band you and your intended both like, and ask them if they will play at a wedding, and if they can play any specific songs you want.

K - i’ve seen tons of weddings as well (being a wedding photographer and all)… it’s fine… no one really pays attention to it… plus when you take pictures of everyone in your bridal party… the girls side always looks smaller… this will even it out :)

jlb07 - make sure when you find one that you really see them play… or at see a video of them playing… a lot of bands… will even invite you to their next gig to check them out… then you can see first hand how they interact with the crowd…

I have a question for the beehive… which may seem strange… but…

My save the date’s are actually customized poker chips and I am having a hard time figuring out how to send them. I thought about going to coin stores and seeing if they had any cards I could slide them in… and we even thought about using rubber cement to stick on a card.

But at this point, I would appreciate any ideas anyone might have! Thanks.

snot - i love the poker chips idea. you can try using top-loading card protectors for baseball cards. you can get them anywhere online or at card shops for pretty cheap i believe. they definitely kept my baseball cards in pristine condition for years.

snot - I’d use Zots, or rubber cement, or something like that to stick them on individual playing cards. Then you can put them in the baseball card sleeves, as mentioned above, or send them as-is. :)
