Wearing a Ring

August 11th, 2006 @ 2:13 pm by Mrs. Bee

Everybody knows somebody who’s bagged the band for one reason or another. Forgot to put it on. Hate wearing jewelry. Allergic. Marriage has added a few pounds. Lost it and haven’t replaced it.

My parents don’t wear wedding rings. Most of my friend’s parents don’t wear wedding rings. And I know several married people who simply hate wearing jewelry.

Jeweler Tyler Nogai says that a woman definitely wants her husband to “look married, off the market” the first five years of marriage. But after many years of marriage, do most people just stop caring?

Do you think you will stop wearing your wedding ring one day? Would you care if your husband stopped wearing his?

yeah, neither of my parents wear their wedding bands/rings either… my mom’s doesn’t fit her anymore and my dad stopped wearing his b/c he was worried he’d lose it every time he had to scrub in for surgery.

neither my fiancee or i are “jewelry” people, but i think the ring is something we both want to wear forever. but who knows, in 10 or 20 years… age, weight, differing styles… new bling to wear ;).

I think I’ll always wear mine. I’d never really been a jewelry person, either, but once A bought me this ring, it hasn’t come off my finger ONCE, and now I wear jewelry nearly every day! And he has informed me that he can’t wait to get his platinum band, cuz he wants to wear one…so I think we’ll be good to go ;)

I think I will always wear mine. I have always worn rings. My Husband loves wearing his, so I would be surprised if he stopped. But you never know!

hmmm… that brings up the question, are you supposed to take off your diamond rings before you go to bed? i think i read somewhere that you really shouldn’t wear your engagment ring to sleep because over time, the friction caused by the sheets rubbing on the diamond will cause microscopic scratches and dull the gem - especially for diamonds that have a special coating on them.

i take mine off every night and put it in the box, when i wash up for bed… but every once in a blue moon i forget to put it back on in the morning, and i feel naked without it.

my dad doesn’t wear a ring b/c he lost two in the first year he was married (he’s very good at losing things) and they decided they couldn’t afford to keep buying him rings.

my mom can barely get hers off. her knuckles have gotten a little bigger over the years and when she had to have an mri, it took her a couple hours and a lot of lotion to get it off.

so, i’ll definately wear mine but i might let him go w/o if he wants.

I feel naked without mine, too, and wear it always- even when I sleep. My fiance is looking forward to wearing his titanium band we’re planning on getting. Now, I don’t know if I’ll always wear the e-ring, since I have scratched quite a number of people and pets with mine, but my wedding band I’ll wear always.

miss poppy’s comment made me laugh :)

peachy you are right when you say that you should take the ring off before going to bed… i did that for the first 2-3 weeks and forgot to wear my ring… i said forget that… now i wear it all the time…

i think i’ll wear mine forever…. i’m not a jewerly person either… but i just love my ring :)

as for the hubbs… he wears his… occasionally he forgets to put it on… (he takes his off every nite… says that it scatches when washing his face)… when he forgets… he gives me a sad face & says, “baby… are you going to be mad at me?” “did you forget your ring?” “yeah” “i guess you’re not my husband today” grr~~~ kidding of course :)

my dad doesn’t wear his cuz of work… big machinery around… and my mom doesn’t wear hers cuz it’s ugly :) it’s that cat eye shape… she wants a new one :) hahaha…

My fiance’s dad took off his wedding ring, at the reception of his own wedding! Hasn’t worn one since.

But I want my husband to wear his band all the time, scratches and dinks and all.

“Guess you’re not my husband today” hehe

Sometimes i forget to put my engagement ring on, and twice i didn’t wear my ring when i was angry at FI. I don’t think he even noticed…so much for getting back at him.

my parents don’t wear theirs, but my dad bought my mom a nicer wedding band a few years back for an anniversary that she wears whenever she dresses up.

i know i’ll wear my wedding ring as long as i can. i already wear my promise ring all the time. it only comes off when i use lotion or anything with chemicals [i hear it's not good for the peridot stone (my birthstone and fav color)...it has diamond side stones (his birthstone) that he says symbolizes him with his arms around me in a hug]

from the way he talks about being married and everything, i’m sure he’ll always wear his ring proudly.

strangely enough…i always forgot to wear mine and my fingers swell up during summer - so I always leave it at home. :P personally, i don’t care either way…as long as my FI always wears it when he goes out.

I don’t wear my e-ring when I shower or at night when I crawl in bed, so I’m sure I will do the same with my wedding ring. I would like my fiance to wear his ring all the time, but he can’t wear it at work, so…oh well I guess, nothing I can do about it!

I am not a jewelry person….so as soon as we got married i stopped wearing my e-ring and just wear my band, good thing is that he doesn’t care that i stopped wearing it, as long as the band is on. My husband wears his band everyday except when he goes swimming.

After our nine years engagement, we´re se used to wear our rings, that I can’t imagine us putting the weddingbands in a bedstand..

My m2b don´t even wear a normal watch, much less any other type of jewelry. But his engagment-ring better stay on the finger…

And, yes. In sweden we exchange rings when we get engaged insted.

Yep we exchange rings at the engagement (usually plain goldrings, no stones or diamonds) and then the bride gets another one at the wedding.

But nowdays many swedish guys also gets another ring at the wedding, so both bride and groom wear 2 rings..

(sorry for all the non-american info..)

I have always disliked jewelry, but getting married has helped me to make an exception regarding wedding bands.

Rather than being annoyed with it I’m excited to wear it… it’s “an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace,” as it was explained to me.

Be proud of it, and if you don’t feel like it don’t wear it! It’s your choice, not anybody else’s, don’t feel like you owe it to anybody to follow a particular path.
